Encouraging the next generation by speaking with them about my experiences as an astronaut is an important part of the job. It's particularly important to me since there were no Japanese astronauts in Japan when I was a child. Understanding that space is a global effort that needs people from many countries and backgrounds encourages a more collaborative and inclusive world view. Plus, kids ask the best questions!
