@hourlymoka Let's take Skyrim as an example, okay you can like the plot and the story by watching it on YouTube or reading about it, but no, you won't ever experience what makes the game so iconic like, without the freedom of exploration and choice it's another experience entirely.

@hourlymoka The ways the storytelling is delivered and interacted with is more important than the storytelling itself. The first Star Wars movie is very good, the novelisation is utterly borish, even though they have the same story overall, the medium changes drastically how you perceived it

Well maybe because games are comprised of a lot more than just the gameplay and often times are also a medium for storytelling and artwork which many different people can like 😕 This would make sense if we were still jiggling our joysticks making Mario jump over barrels

Tbh what actually makes me mad about the "can you call yourself a fan of a game you've never played" discourse is really just that people want to be part of a fandom more than they care about the thing itself, and I think that's kind of an awful way to approach art
