Trump has announced a new initiative that tech companies must fund their own electricity demands for new data centers.
I could see this evolving into tech companies building their own dedicated power plants, which could then offer electricity to communities for a profit. Thus, the privatization of utilities, essentially. You will be paying your electric bill to Mark Zuckerberg.
This is your signal, in America, to invigorate your drive for community sovereignty and sufficiency zones, with your OWN community power sources

Quite surreal to hear the argument that the problem with Venezuela was that it was selling oil to US adversaries given that it was the US that decided in 2019 to stop buying Venezuelan oil.

NEW RESEARCH: Yet another independent study (now approaching 65) finds that hydrogen for heating is not a viable pathway at scale. This time it is a study from the German @FraunhoferISI. My meta-review of 54 independent studies is now getting more and more out of date although the findings of new studies corroborate my conclusions in Cell Press Sustainability Reports from 2024: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
Here are the key findings:
1. Soaring costs for consumers: Switching to hydrogen would cause heating bills to skyrocket by 74% to 172% compared to today's natural gas. The projected cost of hydrogen in 2035 is far above previous gas price caps, and this doesn't even include the extra costs for converting "H2-ready" boilers and other necessary building adjustments.
2. Unsustainable subsidies: Making hydrogen affordable for heating would require massive public subsidies, costing between €9.4 and €21.3 billion annually. Moreover, the cost of CO2 abatement would be exceptionally high (between €713 and €1,374 per tonne), making it a significantly worse investment for the climate compared to other available alternatives.
3. A logistical nightmare: The coordinated, zone-by-zone conversion of gas grids to hydrogen would be a mammoth task. It demands that every gas boiler in an area be replaced with an "H2-ready" unit before the switch—a huge challenge in terms of coordination, time, and skilled labor. This massive effort is hard to justify, especially as heating demand in these converted areas is projected to decline.

Belgium supports the proposal for partial suspension of Israel’s access to EU’s Horizon Europe and calls on the Commission to swiftly propose other concrete measures.
