@FernandoAlonsus I would argue because there are two distinct 'turn in' points - you don't keep steering static the whole way through, or turn in and then out. There is an ease point between Turn 1 and 2 to run high. You can argue it's simply a double apex corner, but there is a logic to it.

@victorabadf1 The only reasonable thing to do if they allowed this appeal to stand is revert the results to before any driver served a pitlane speeding penalty, and just pretend the second half of the race literally didn't happen. Charles finishes P3, etc. That is the only reasonable outcome

@rosiierix Yes, he deserved P3. F1 is a mix of hard work and luck. All teams knew that FIA was making incorrect measurements yet they opted to take the easy route and serve the penalty rather than confront FIA with evidence like Alpine. Russel was also deserving but Mercedes did him dirty

@Iwatchthehockey @rosiierix Nope. You can't appeal the penalty for not serving a penalty. If other teams didn't serve the penalties, they'd have gotten a drive through and that wouldn't be appealable and you have to serve it in race.

There is some truth to this, we have a lot of complacency in the States. But it ignores the omniprecent nature of firearms here. They create an escalation of force goes from zero to bloodbath almost immediately. Do not underestimate how much this one factor changes the math.
