If you didn't travel by road across Nigeria before 2015, 2010, you may not fully understand what years of misrule did to Nigeria in the aspect of insecurity. Travelling by road was fun. Many people could afford to fly, but still opted to go by road because it was safe and fun. I did. It was exciting and safe to put your car on the road and travel to Ekiti, Minna, Enugu, Lafia for matters. On your way, you could pull over and pluck mangoes and cashews. Gradually, everything changed, and things are not getting better. People are being kidnapped in their homes in FCT! FCT is the seat of power. It is the president's seat. So, what should those in Ekiti, Jos, and Anambra expect? If after what happened in Jos, the Grand Commander of the Armed Forces of Nigeria put up a quick meeting at the airport on the basis of security reports and lack of power, it is a very hopeless situation for the common man. Nigeria is not broke. Billions are still being shared. They're still earmarking trillions for their election bids, buying brand new vehicles, branding them, and spending billions to buy political acceptance and alignments. Nigeria is broke because spending to benefit the people serves no political purpose for them. Neither Nigerians nor Nigeria matters to our leaders. When things reach the tipping point, many of them have perfected the plans to be airlifted to neighbouring countries. You need to be poor, to panic about insecurity, to be uneducated or poorly educated, to be jobless or underemployed for their bags of rice to find worthy beneficiaries. They need you in this state of hopelessness so that being one of the 1 million men to march for city boy would come to you as a privilege. Have you sat to interrogate your purpose? Is it lives that young people are living in Nigeria? Even the ones who are able to make money are still poor and insecure at heart. It is always about senseless acquisitions like a kleptomaniac. It is simply because nothing is guaranteed. The ultimate goal for all of us is to make money and build a tall fence. Nothing impactful. No effort towards inventions and innovations. No aspiration to make any reform in our trades and profession. Down to our relationships - purely transactional. The aggression and seriousness they put into the new Tax Act and its enforcement won't go into fighting insecurity, ensuring steady power supply, improving the health sector, and revamping our state of education. They will give you rice! They disrespect you so much that they think that you are here just for food. I don't begrudge anyone for supporting APC or Tinubu. I am able to come to terms with the fact that people have the right to choose. It is the most elementary thing I should be able to stand as a lawyer. However, for common men like me, who are not guests at the table, and can even be described as parts of the menu, I will never understand why you want Mr. Tinubu to continue in 2027. What I see isn't governance and nation building. What I see is state capture.
