In Northern Ireland, 287 volunteers have made 5,651 visits to BBS squares. They have spent a cumulative 8,000 hours recording, and have submitted around 223,000 records. @BTO_NIreland

With practice, and close views, adult Kingfishers can be sexed on the basis of bill colour. Adult males have at least 2/3 of their lower bill black, while in adult females at least 2/3 of the lower bill is orange. Can you sex this bird @BBCSpringwatch? #Winterwatch

Volunteers Steve and Alison in Ayrshire got in touch recently about this House Sparrow with a remarkably-shaped upper mandible. They tell us it can quite happily feed from the seed feeder but the peanut feeder is impractical. Pretty amazing eh? @BTO_GBW @_BTO @ScottishBirding
