Very happy to share our new Physical Review Letters paper: “Hyperpolarized Molecular Nuclear Spins Achieve Magnetic Amplification.” In this work, we report what is, to our knowledge, the first measurement of magnetic gain in a molecular medium, showing dramatically enhanced magnetic responsivity of hyperpolarized molecular nuclear spins with implications for quantum sensing and precision magnetometry #PRL #QuantumSensors #SpinPhysics #NMR journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/1…

Legendary Professor @AswathDamodaran (@NYU) just said the quiet part out loud: • 95% of academic research is pointless • Your degree is an overvalued asset • Books over 200 pages aren't worth reading • ChatGPT can already do what investment bankers do • Every asset class is overpriced Why are universities, markets & finance all running the same broken algorithm? First NIH grant officially submitted. Not easy - but rewarding. Turning ideas into fundable science is a marathon, and we’re just getting started 🏃‍♀️🏃🏿🏃🏻

@ShawLiu12 Thanks for clarifying! If that’s the lower bound, what’s the upper bound? At what point does a „complete transformation“ of society demand detailed planning and democratic oversight, rather than racing ahead with a new Tower of Babel?

Great question, everyone/organization defines this thing very differently even though it's all under the term AGI. I personally tend to understand it as a conceptual spectrum with lower bound and upper bound. In my view, the Lower Bound refers to each of us having an agent capable of long-horizon task execution, like a full-time personal assistant we hire who can complete desktop tasks that typically require humans 8-12 hours of focused work. By then, the way humans work in society will be completely transformed

Hit 20,000+ citations in the fifth year of my PhD study. It’s really a meaningful moment for me. Strive to approach AGI in the coming years!

I just read the current grokipedia article on the Great Barrington Declaration. It's balanced & almost entirely factually accurate (though it still has me as Stanford prof.). Wikipedia, by contrast, is biased, bordering on libelous. Thank you @elonmusk! grokipedia.com/page/Great_Bar…

@yokoyoko001 @nmr900 Ah I see, you plan to do something like Terranova MRI machine. Then as long as you switch off the polarizing field fast enough to ensure non-adiabatic condition for protons, you're good. Good luck with the experiments, sounds like a fun project! 😁

@BarskiyLab @nmr900 Thanks! It’s actually a proton precession magnetometer, not a resonant NMR setup. The DC pulse just polarizes the protons — after it’s turned off, they precess in the Earth’s field (~2 kHz). You’re right though, an RF field would tip the spins more efficiently.

NMR面白そうだからやりたいけど、難易度高そうなので、プロトン磁力計から始めようかしら

Well you may want to apply an RF field with about 2kHz frequency instead. The DC pulse won't be in resonance with proton's Larmor precession so it will unlikely rotate your spins... unless you turn off the Earth's field to zero at the time of pulse application (which is possible but tricky)

@BarskiyLab @nmr900 Yes, I plan to apply a DC magnetic field pulse perpendicular to the Earth's magnetic field to polarize the protons, then turn it off and detect the FID signal with an amplifier and an audio interface.
