Few people know this, but early on, James Vega was meant to be a romance option. Yes, Bioware later included a hookup in the Citadel DLC, but I'm talking a fully-fledged option like Liara. On Earth, his goodbye had a romance variation. Inside the files we can see an unused dialogue choice titled "More than an honor", and while the context is missing from the file itself, the game's beta script luckily has the subtitles: James: "It's been an honor serving with you, Shepard." (Default, Vanilla line) Shepard: "I think we both know it's been more than that." (Romance, Paragon option: "More than an honor") James: "Yeah, I just... that means a lot to me. You mean a lot to me." Shepard: "Whatever happens... I'm glad I got to know you, James." Another scene with James was cut, where he offers Shepard a drink, who could either accept or refuse. Subtitles are mostly missing, but the file shows that this was the conversation where his romance locked in. After the romance was cut, this scene was likely also removed since it longer served its purpose. #MassEffect #bioware
