Grandmaster at Life The ICC family is profoundly saddened to report on the passing of our beloved dear friend and colleague Martin Grund. Our deepest condolences go out to the entire Grund family. “Marty” served as the President of ICC for many years. He was a beloved member and a “founding father” of the online chess community, renowned for his humility, compassion and uncanny ability to connect with everyone. A proud husband, father, grandfather and brother, Marty’s enthusiasm for life and chess was only surpassed by his love and devotion to his family and faith. We miss you Marty. Your spirit will continue to live through all those that had the good fortune to be touched by you. If you would like to leave your condolences or get to know Marty more you can click here: ilesfuneralhomes.com/obituary/Marti… @alexisbednyak

@Rainmaker1973 So, the developer created a need to spend excess time in front of his terminal coding a black hole project, which is actually just a self-flagellation project for developers who spend excess time in front of their terminal. He should code a therapist next.

A Ukrainian developer created a black hole in his terminal to force himself to take breaks. The more you work nonstop, the more it grows and distorts your code with its gravitational lens. You rest and it shrinks. [🎞️ s13k_]

This is fun! My chessfootball team, made up entirely of world chess champions. ⚽♟👑 Purely attack-minded yet flexible, capable of dominating the field (the board), playing positional, and launching quick counterattacks.😉 Let’s play! How would you line up your team? (P.S.: The football World Cup kicks off today) #ChessConnectsUs #chessfootball #fun #justplay #justplaychess

🇩🇪 Vincent Keymer: "I don't think Sindarov is clearly stronger than the rest of us" Vincent Keymer on 🇺🇿 Sindarov's rise and 🇮🇳 Gukesh's recent struggles: "Sindarov is obviously very strong. But I don't think he's clearly stronger than Abdusattorov, Arjun, Praggnanandhaa, Gukesh, or me. At the moment, I'd put him in the same group as the rest of us. Sindarov could very easily have lost his first-round game against Andrey Esipenko. And if he had, he probably would have finished somewhere in the bottom three or four places. But he managed to win it and then found his rhythm." On Gukesh: "I don't think it's about a packed schedule anymore. It seems more likely that it's the burden of being World Champion. But I know too little about the details, because these are things that are deeply connected to a person's character."

@JenShahade Peak delusion for Kamala Harris to believe she was undone in every swing state by the sons of IM Emory Tate, while holding a view of them now parroted by the disreputable New Yorker. Kamala lost because she's incapable of understanding why she and her policies were never viable.

If you play chess and you follow the Tates or any of their outfits like the "War Room" (which uses the logo of the chess knight) you know now what they stand for. It's a long game but we will win. The ideas behind the manosphere are rotten and exposed.

Longread on the Tate brothers: "In the weeks before the vote, he pumped out pro-MAGA content, mobilizing young men in such large numbers that Kamala Harris later named him as a key factor in her defeat. When the result was in, Tate posted jubilantly on X: “THE PATRIARCHY IS BACK.” After the Inauguration, he added, “The Tates will be free, Trump is the president.”"

🇵🇱 Grzegorz Gajewski on 🇮🇳 Gukesh's style: "I can't really blame the approach" Grzegorz Gajewski, Gukesh's coach, on the criticism surrounding the World Champion's recent results: "It's a very difficult spot to be where he's at. He is under the spotlight and we are doing all we can in our power to come back to the highest level." On Gukesh's willingness to take risks: "That approach made him the world champion in the first place. He really needed to do so many things to make this world title happen. So I can't really blame the approach." "He has many weaknesses and when he was winning the title, he had the same weaknesses as he has right now. Maybe even more. But at that time there was so much confidence."

@EndgameaiChess What's the endgame? For now, I do appreciate that equal prize founds encourage more/stronger competition in women's chess. If/when women's chess achieves parity w/ the open section, need chess maintain a distinct category for women? Will they double the open entries/prizes then?

🇮🇳 Divya Deshmukh on equal prize money at Norway Chess: "I think it's really important. I think it's amazing that Norway Chess has actually implemented it. I would love if other tournaments also follow soon because I think all of us are working hard as much as we can." Norway Chess is one of the few elite events to offer equal prize funds for both the Open and Women's tournaments. Should more top chess tournaments adopt equal prize money for their Open and Women's events?

🇺🇸 Wesley So: "I Don't Understand at All How I Won This Game" Wesley So spoke to ChessBase India after defeating 🇮🇳 Praggnanandhaa in Round 6 of Norway Chess 2026 and taking the sole lead in the tournament: "It was hard, very hard. I was playing for a draw. I thought I would offer a draw on the 30th move, but then he started to overpress. And when the 30th move came, I was already doing better, so I didn't offer a draw. I don't understand at all how I won this game. I think it's somehow related to the lack of time. Moreover, Praggnanandhaa was too eager to win. He was extremely aggressive today. I think he really wanted to win and in the end, he overpressed." Looking ahead to the final four rounds, Wesley acknowledged the strength of the field and the challenge that lies ahead: "Everyone here is very strong. You need a lot of energy. Everyone is very young, except, perhaps, Magnus. Gukesh, Firouzja, Keymer, all are very young, energetic and ambitious players. You can never feel safe. I will need all the help I can get."
