Then, in November of the same year, the law capping interest rates was repealed, on the pretext that it had reduced loan uptake. The gullible Kenyan public swallowed the propaganda and believed the Uhuru government. Mshwari is the greatest financial scam ever in Kenya—worse than the Eurobond heist. It is a rip-off of Kenyans’ hard-earned money. It is disheartening that the very people pocketing 138.7% per annum (or 7.5% per month) from desperate, poor Mshwari borrowers are the same ones inciting Kenyans against their government for levying small fees in exchange for real services. I blame the captured Kenyan media, which are more than ready to spread propaganda against President William Ruto but remained dead silent during Uhuru regime's financial atrocities. This is the same Kenyan media that labels audit queries as "scandals," "scams," "thefts," and other sensational adjectives.
