Oh, golly. No. Yes, it may be that one of the most active organizers in the early fandom (for conventions especially) happened to be gay. BUT, in the 80s and 90s furries were predominantly straight males. The gay demographic began growing in the 90s but wasn’t the majority until around the mid-2000s. And it was lewd artwork, and conventions being marketed among queer social circles, that drew so many of them in. Truly the result of artificial marketing!

Mark Merlino was a proud gay man. He founded ConFurence and created Sydney Fisher the character on this flyer. The fandom was literally founded for queers by queers. A female character isn’t automatically there for straight men to oggle. Get over yourself.
