If you want to monetize with affiliate links, you have to stop thinking like a creator… and start thinking like a buyer.
Buyers don’t wake up looking for “AI headshot tools”.
They wake up thinking:
– “I need to update my CV.”
– “I want to look more credible online.”
– “Why does my profile still look like I’m in uni?”
And just like everyone else, they are not buying a product. They’re buying a solution to a tiny but urgent frustration. The sales become natural when you speak to the frustration directly.
So instead of posting:
“Here’s an AI headshot tool. Get 10% off.”
Try this:
“Your profile picture might be the reason you’re not getting callbacks. I didn’t believe it either, until I changed mine. Here’s what happened…”
That shift from tool to transformation is what makes someone click.
And when they click, if your link leads to a great experience (like BetterPic offers), you’ve just earned trust, commission, and likely a repeat buyer.
Creators who make affiliate sales every day aren’t necessarily better at selling; they’re just better at understanding what people are already trying to fix. It’s about meeting demand with the right product, timing and message.
The watchword is demand matching, powered by trust.
If you can get that right, the income follows.

People often ask me:
“Why does human-to-human marketing still work in an AI world?”
Some think we’re out here helping people hide behind fake profiles or polished avatars. They assume AI headshots are about pretending to be someone you’re not.
But that’s not what we’ve seen at all.
When we launched this platform, what stood out wasn’t people trying to hide; it was people trying to show up. Especially professionals who want to improve how they’re seen online. They wanted to look more put-together for LinkedIn, job searches, personal websites, and anywhere they needed to make a good impression.
At the core of everything we do is this simple idea:
-> Helping people succeed in their online professional lives.
And that’s what drives us. Seeing how AI headshots have helped people feel more confident, more polished, and more visible in their careers.
We’re just getting started. Right now, we’re working on ways to cut down production costs (those GPUS are expensive) so we can make this more accessible to more people.
But what am I really excited about?
We’re about to launch targeted marketing efforts that focus on students trying to land their first job. We’ve also struck deals that’ll give us almost free production capacity, and we plan to pass that on.
The goal is to offer a large number of free headshots to:
- Students stepping into the job market for the first time
- People in low-income regions who could use that extra edge
This is what human marketing looks like in an AI world, using technology to actually support people, not replace them.

In 2020, I spent $10k on ads and walked away with a $3k loss—because I thought that’s all it took to win at getting rich.
Here’s what I learned.
When I launched my first dropshipping business in 2020, I had ZERO marketing experience. Like many new entrepreneurs, I fell for the "launch ads and get rich quick" mindset.
You've seen those YouTube gurus... "Launch your Meta ads and watch sales pour in overnight!" 🙄
Here's the painful reality I discovered after burning through $10,000 in ad spend:
-Low-intent channels (like Meta ads) are TERRIBLE starting points for bootstrapped founders. Why? Because you're literally throwing ads at people who never asked to see them.
I was selling wireless breastfeeding pumps. The product solved a genuine pain point (I had a one-year-old daughter, so I KNEW the problem was real). But despite making 200 sales, I ended up $3,000 in the hole.
For months, I obsessed over improving my ads and funnels, convinced that was the solution. But I was attacking the wrong problem entirely.
The breakthrough came when I finally understood the difference between:
- High-intent channels: Where people actively SEARCH for your solution (Google ads)
- Low-intent channels: Where you interrupt people's scrolling (Meta ads)
When we launched BetterPic 18 months ago, we applied this lesson. Even though we still lost money for six months, we focused on capturing existing demand through search rather than creating demand through interruption.
The growth strategy that actually works for bootstrapped founders:
1. Start by capturing existing demand, not creating it
2. Focus on organic growth first (it's slow but sustainable)
3. Build multiple revenue pillars rather than depending on a single platform
4. Listen obsessively to customer feedback and improve your product
5. Invest in 24/7 customer support (our competitors close on weekends - we don't)
Today, BetterPic’s traffic comes from:
- 30% direct (people who know us)
- 25% SEO (organic search)
- Plus targeted SCA and strategic partnerships
This diversification means that if Facebook makes an algorithm change tomorrow, we don't lose everything overnight.
The biggest lesson? Don't confuse different parts of the funnel. I don't even think in terms of "funnels" anymore – just high-intent vs low-intent channels. And always start with high intent.
What growth misconception cost you the most money when starting out? I'd love to hear your expensive lessons in the comments.
PS: this is me looking at my drop shipping campaigns in 2020

This is not my typical kind of post, but I need to share with part-time affiliates how to earn more while keeping their full-time job (even with 10 hours per week).
First, to burst the myth, affiliate success isn’t only for full-time creators.
I’ve seen part-time affiliates, people with 9–5s, families, and side gigs pull in $2–5K/month by building systems.
The difference is that they don’t try to promote everything, but pick one product that solves a real problem and build a lean machine around it.
Here’s a breakdown of what that can look like — even if you’ve only got 1–2 hours per week to work on it.
WEEK 1: Study your people like a detective (2 hours)
Skip SEO tools and focus on actual human language.
- Browse forum based websites like Reddit/Quora - they are a goldmine for real user feedback on product need.
- Look for real quotes: “I hate how I look on LinkedIn,” “I need a new headshot before I launch,” “I can’t afford a photographer.”
- Save those. They’re gold. You’ll use them to write a copy.
WEEK 2: Build your cornerstone content (3 hours)
This is your “hero post” — the one that actually moves people to click and buy.
- Tell a story (yours or a client’s) about needing a better professional image
- Be honest about the insecurity or pressure that came with it
- Introduce the tool naturally — as a relief, not a plug
- Add your link in a smart, subtle way
One great post (long-form, preferably) beats 20 shallow ones.
WEEK 3: Repurpose and distribute (3 hours)
Turn your hero post into:
- 1 short video (YouTube Short, Reel, or TikTok)
- 2 carousels for LinkedIn or IG
- A pinned tweet or thread
- A blog or newsletter piece
Don’t overthink it. Use the same story and message. People don’t mind repetition; they need reminders.
WEEK 4: Engage + refine (1 hour)
Comment on relevant posts with your POV
- Try new hooks based on what got engagement
- Ask your audience pain-point-driven questions
That’s how part-time creators still win. By being clear, consistent, and deeply helpful.

Most affiliates follow the same old formula:
You get a link, maybe a generic dashboard, and then… nothing. With hope that someone, somewhere, clicks.
But that model doesn’t work anymore. Why? Because audiences are selective and respond to stories, social proof, and real alignment between the product and the promoter.
Here’s a better approach affiliates are using today to turn content into recurring income without burning out or sounding like hard core salesmen:
Step 1: Find Your Angle: Just as the marketing basics, affiliates must focus on sharing the product solution and specifics.
It’s not “AI headshots for everyone.”
It’s:
• Headshots for Black professionals navigating corporate hiring
• Visual branding for early-stage therapists building trust online
• Personal brand upgrades for career switchers
Step 2: Personalize the proof by using your own headshots to tell the story. Walk your audience through why you used the tool, what it helped you with and what changed after that.
Use your own headshots. Tell your story.
Step 3: Go Where Trust Already Exists
Warm traffic converts best, so instead of always chasing the algorithm, there’s what to do instead:
• LinkedIn carousels to show transformations
• YouTube Shorts to explain use cases
• Email newsletters to share real reviews
• Reels to build story-driven visibility
There’s a shift happening in affiliate marketing.
It’s moving from link drops to trusted influence.
From traffic to community.
If you’re thinking long-term, this is the right game to play.

If you want more affiliate conversions, you need to fix your story structure, not your link.
79% of affiliates think they need better products, commissions, and email funnels.
But most times, the problem is simpler: their content doesn't move people emotionally.
Here’s a simple 4-part story structure that our top-performing BetterPic affiliates use to turn attention into action:
1. Start with the pain
You need to speak the unspoken, pain is what hooks attention. Be raw.
“I hated how I looked on LinkedIn. Every time I saw my old profile picture, I cringed. It felt outdated. But I also didn’t want to spend $300 on a photographer.”
2. Reframe with an insight
This is the “aha” moment when your perspective changed, and what helps your reader see themselves in your story.
“Then I realised it’s not about vanity. It’s about my credibility. My face is my first impression to recruiters, clients, and collaborators. And right now? I was sabotaging it.”
3. Introduce the solution with context
Not just “use this tool”. Show how it played into your shift to make it feel attainable and real.
“I tried BetterPic because a friend swore by it. And honestly? I didn’t expect much. But 20 minutes later, I had 10 AI-generated headshots that looked like me on my best day.”
4. Close with transformation + CTA
Make it personal, not pitchy, with a story, insight, proof, and invitation.
“I’ve shown up differently since then — in interviews, in content, in pitches. If you’ve been putting this off, don’t. You’ll thank yourself. [Your Link]”
Story, insight, proof, invitation. That’s it.
When you frame your content like a journey and not a product plug, people will buy and also follow you.
And that’s how long-term affiliate brands are built.

Everyone wants to build muscles, but not everyone wants to go to the gym.
Everyone wants to stay youthful and happy, but not everyone disciplines themselves to create self-care habits.
Everyone wants passive income, but not everyone is willing to put in the content work it requires.
I talk to creators who say: “I want to earn from affiliate marketing…” But they don’t want to make videos, they don’t want to write, or show up.
You can’t build trust by being invisible. You definitely can’t sell without being seen.
The affiliates who earn $5K, $10K, even $20K/month don’t wake up and drop links hoping for a buy. They are constantly educating, entertaining, and explaining to their audience.
They earn attention first. Then they earn clicks.
The easy thing to forget is affiliate marketing isn’t a link game, it’s a trust building game. Links play a role, but people click links from parties they trust.
Ask yourself:
– Why should someone trust my recommendation?
– Why should they click my link over someone else’s?
– Why should they believe I am not just chasing commissions but also providing value?
You can’t fake trust. And the fastest way to build trust?
Create content that actually helps people make better buying decisions.
That could be:
– A YouTube tutorial that shows how you used the tool
– A TikTok of before/after results
– A tweet thread explaining what to avoid when buying
– A blog comparing 3 tools honestly including yours
– A LinkedIn post that frames the pain point and positions your solution
Content is your compounding engine. It’s an engine that scales unlike DMs or comments or spamming groups. It’s also a machine that works for you while you sleep.
One post can bring in traffic for months. One video can become your best seller.
I have seen this work for our best affiliates. They show up, build a content engine and tell a story while selling.
- One affiliate is creating Youtube videos showing results and why our product works the best: generated almost 1400 sales in the last 6 months 👀
- His audience on Youtube is barely more than 1K followers
It's all rooted in visibility through content that drives passive income.

The standard SaaS playbook didn’t fit Betterpic.
Most SaaS businesses rely on recurring revenue, but we don’t. Every month, we start from zero, which means retention strategies alone won’t cut it. We needed a different approach to growth—one that prioritized customer acquisition and repeat purchases.
I remember feeling challenged when looking at our SaaS growth playbooks.
"Focus on customer retention."
"Optimize your MRR."
Well, what happens when you don’t have MRR? What happens when your business is fundamentally different?
Here’s what worked for us:
1. Affiliates over ads: Instead of burning cash on paid ads, we built strong partnerships with affiliates who already had trust with their audience.
2. Obsessing over conversions: With no recurring revenue, every conversion counts. We optimized our user journey relentlessly.
3. Expanding distribution channels: We didn’t rely on just one acquisition method. We tested YouTube creators, LinkedIn partnerships, and even offline referrals.
Today, we’re hitting over $250K/month in revenue, but it didn’t happen by following the usual SaaS growth hacks.
The takeaway? Your business model defines your growth strategy. Don’t blindly copy playbooks—build your own.
What’s an unconventional strategy that worked for you?

I made a mistake that cost us $3000 and $0 returns.
When we took over Betterpic, I made a huge mistake.
I thought I could handle five different marketing channels at once—Meta ads, SEO, partnerships, cold outreach, everything.
But I was only working part-time as a CMO back then, and in two days a week, you can’t scale five channels effectively.
I remember convincing myself, “If we just push a little harder, we can make this work.”
I sold myself some false hope.
But the truth was, I was spreading myself too thin. We spent $3K on Meta ads. Almost no sales.
Money down the drain. That stung.
That was my wake-up call.
Instead of chasing everything at once, I focused on what was already working: our affiliate channel.
I stopped trying to do everything and focused on doing one thing exceptionally well.
We doubled down, optimized commissions, nurtured relationships, and scaled our best-performing partnerships.
The result? Our affiliate program now accounts for a significant chunk of our revenue, and we’re growing faster than ever.
I learned the hard way that growth isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing the right things, better.
Have you ever had to cut back on strategies that weren’t working? What happened?

New affiliates and creators struggle with consistent earnings despite high site traffic.
They jump into programs with high expectations but little to no real preparation or systems.
But then, reality hits:
- Low conversions despite traffic
- High competition but low product differentiation
- Low-paid commissions despite expectations
- Platforms cutting commissions overnight
The common issue is treating affiliate marketing as a transaction rather than a business.
It’s a "promote and get paid" scheme, after all—you don’t need to do much on your end.
Wrong. Kill that mindset.
Full-time or side hustle, it’s still a business.
I’ve spoken to dozens of affiliates over the past six months, and the most successful ones set the right systems in place.
Most importantly, they focus on high trends with quality products and a ready market.
Here’s how top affiliates (including partners at BetterPic) are building consistent revenue streams:
- Position for high-intent traffic, not just high traffic. Target searches from buyers, not just browsers. Our affiliates optimize for high-intent keywords and AI headshot demand, which leads to higher conversions.
- Diversify across platforms. Relying only on YouTube or LinkedIn is risky. Most gurus advise niching down to a single platform—correct. But the best affiliates spread content across SEO blogs, email, and niche forums.
- Optimize product fit – If an audience doesn’t need the product, they won’t buy. It’s not about promoting high-competition products but high-demand products with good differentiation and proven results.
- Use social proof aggressively by showing the product in use (including how they use it for their day to day tasks), and the results so their audience understands what they get out of the purchase.
- Optimize, don’t abandon. Most new affiliates give up too soon. The best ones test different landing pages, content angles, and CTAs until they find what works.
High earnings aren’t dependent on high traffic volume or high-competition products. It’s about high intent, product demand, traffic diversification, and business skills.

Chasing traffic doesn’t bring you business success.
No, this isn’t limited to SEO.
Business success comes from trust.
Most marketers chase traffic. We focused on trust.
Instead of pouring thousands into low-intent and cash-intensive channels, we prioritized partnerships with content creators, LinkedIn thought leaders, and affiliates who already had trust with their audience.
I’ll never forget the day we signed our first high-impact affiliate.
Within a month, they had brought in more revenue than any paid ad campaign we had ever run.
That’s when it clicked: people don’t just buy from companies. They buy from people they trust.
Why?
Because trust converts better than traffic ever will.
One partnership alone brought in an additional $20K–$30K per month in revenue. And the best part? It was profitable from day one.
Affiliate marketing isn’t just about signing up partners.
It’s about:
✅ Finding the right partners who genuinely love your product
✅ Offering competitive commissions that make it a win-win
✅ Equipping them with the tools they need to sell effectively
If I had to start over as a CMO today, I’d skip the expensive ad experiments and start by building relationships with the right people.
What’s one strategy that brought you unexpected success?

Most companies launching an affiliate program make one of two mistakes:
- They go all-in on mass recruitment. This fills dashboards with inactive affiliates who never drive meaningful revenue.
- They assume affiliates will “figure it out, but most affiliates need structure, guidance, and ongoing support. Without it, they disengage.
At BetterPic, we took a different approach. Instead of launching with quantity, we focused on quality.
Here’s what worked:
- We onboarded affiliates who actually understand AI and digital content. Instead of chasing anyone, we partnered with people who could drive real demand.
- We provided real-time insights and SEO data; no one should have to guess what works. We share conversion rates, audience insights, and content playbooks to help affiliates succeed.
- We treated affiliates like partners, not just traffic sources. This meant regular strategy calls, performance reviews, and personalized support.
The result? Instead of 500 affiliates driving $100 each, we built a smaller group generating thousands in commissions every month.
Win for them, win for us.
🚫 Now, they’ve dumped the old playbook:
- Promoting products with no real demand
- Relying on short-lived trends for traffic
- Treating affiliate links like a side hustle instead of a business
It’s a journey for us, but also about solid relationships for both parties.
If you’re looking for an affiliate program that prioritizes value for both parties, comment "BetterPic," and I’ll send you more details.
