Shooting JPEG will always produce less noise than RAW. The question is how do we get the camera's noise reduction in our RAW files?

@RellFGC @CritShotStudio If u meter properly and turn off NR in camera, you should never have to do a shit ton of NR in post. I cant remember the last time I ever had to and I shoot in all kinds of conditions.

@RellFGC Also. When you use NR IN CAMERA you risk having the camera output smeared photos. That is why educated photogs (myself included) turn OFF NR in camera and shoot in RAW. It’s more control when you edit. Maybe you need to learn how to meter your light better. Later.

@RellFGC The option DOES matter. Been shooting with Sony mirrorless bodies for 10 years. Nikon DSLRs before. Science is still the same. You cannot shoot lower ISO and get more noise. That just doesn’t happen. Period.

@RellFGC Never in the history of photography has a photo shot at say 200 ISO has had more noise than at 800 ISO. I think you need to check your settings. Let me say again. A jpeg with more noise is compressed far more than a RAW file…what are you shooting with?

@BishopCosplay That's not fully true. Cameras these days have dual gain sensors, the Nikon Z6 will produce more noise at ISO 400 than it will at ISO 800. Canon and Sony also have the same with their mirrorless systems.

@Shannadesu @RellFGC It’s bot covering a base, what they said is common sense. If you don’t need a high ISO (hopefully you metered ur light properly) then you don’t need a high ISO. You only need high ISO when you dont have a flash and your ambient light is insufficient

@RellFGC Shoot with a lower ISO and noise reduction through lightroom 😊

@CritShotStudio @RellFGC Or…..I dunno, use LIGHT as allowed for your set up. If you can use light for a shot, USE IT.

@RellFGC .....wtf.....that is not how noise works like at all. And the easiest way to reduce noise is the 1.shoot the shot as correct as you can get and 2. Use a post production noise reduction feature or run your shots through DXO raw or something like that.
