You know, it's weirdly the little things that really get to me. Like the morning about the 2016 election, it was someone tweeting 'There's going to be a Trump Presidential Library' and tonight it was my Dad saying Trump would be President for America's 250th birthday celebration

@blankslate2017 @ArmandDoma None of that mattered at all. It was inflation. Voters were pissed off about high prices and the squarely blamed Biden/Harris for it. All the other stuff is window dressing. Like 1980 the country was in a bad mood and wanted someone else in charge. The only option was Trump

@ArmandDoma Need to drill down on 'left wing'. It's more about chauvinism than say 'single payer'. Trump focused on trans/immigration/social change and centered male privilege.

in every single imaginable way the voters have screamed loud and clear that they think Democrats are too left wing and yet there are STILL people on here banging on about how if only Kamala had campaigned on embracing full Communism she would’ve won. Jesus fucking Christ

i would caution against calling this election a realignment, and this isn't trying to cope -- in my view, it's most clearly a reaction against an unpopular administration, with approximately uniform swings everywhere. this is the red wave midterm Rs should have had in 2022

@PolitiCatGrump @billroy1974 @schlagteslinks Yeah, unemployment can be fixed (government investments create jobs etc) a spike in inflation never comes back down unless you have deflation which is actually worse

@schlagteslinks Race was decided 2 years ago with inflation. Everything since has been window dressing. High prices soured the electorate to the party in power and it became pervasive. People don’t care about all the other crap just their wallets unfortunately. It just plain sucks

@VlasicDaniel @ERichTTU @ettingermentum @lxeagle17 100%, Trump is just the figurehead, with no checks he’s gonna put the worst of the worst in charge of everything and it’s gonna be a bloodbath. I’m glad I live in a very blue state so I’ll likely be shielded from a lot of it but feel bad for those who won’t

@Bmac636 @ERichTTU @ettingermentum @lxeagle17 Stephen Miller is likely coming for all of them. Trump doesn't care. He's just a grifter who likes attention. But SM is a true believer and will have more power this time around. It's gonna get very ugly.

@VlasicDaniel @Bmac636 @ettingermentum @lxeagle17 The only lucky thing for at least 2 years is SSI and Medicare are safe as they can be within the confines of the house glad he doesn’t get carte blanch with all forms of govt. but like you see maybe the ugly needs to be seen to force people to see the pain. (Kids in cages per se)

@DrewSav It’s more simple than people think, it’s inflation. Years of high prices soured the mood of the electorate. The bad track and bad economy polls should’ve been alarm bells but we all ignored. The electorate is in a bad mood and they’re gonna blame the party in power simple as that

Honestly I'm just completely dumbfounded by most of the results. This election has upended almost everything we thought we knew.

@ehannan73 @AndyGlockner Yep, years of high prices soured the electorate, all the wrong track and bad economy stuff was a massive warning sign. Voters felt bad about the single most important issue and that’s alway gonna hurt the party in power

@AndyGlockner It’s issue based voting (inflation) instead of common sense voting (everything else).

@AndyGlockner Is there anywhere to follow that outcome? That seems the single most important thing left on the table.

@schlagteslinks It’s inflation. In 22 it wasn’t fully baked in yet. The bad feelings created by high prices became pervasive. The right track polling was very indicative of that. The electorate clearly blames the administration and anyone tied to it. Inflation kills governments.

@electionsjoe Yep there was really nothing major she could’ve done better. The race was really decided no matter who ran, 2 years ago when prices shot up. Voters got angry about paying more and that became pervasive across the electorate and Dems being in power got the blame.

She didn't even run a bad campaign. It wasn't incredible. It wasn't amazing. But it wasn't 2016 bad. She tried. We all tried.
