This is the first surprising move, as many people close thought he would stay despite being a portal risk. Ultimately, this wouldn’t be happening if the program wasn’t in “win now” mode. The money Evans is commanding from other schools is almost 2x what Tennessee was willing to pay. I believe the thought process here is that Evans would be an excellent player to watch bloom over the next 2 years. However that money would be better spent on a more experienced shooter, given the belief Barnes is running it back for one more season, 2 max.

I won’t call out any specific names, but there are some accounts that simply read message boards and pass it along like THEY are the source. They’re not. This was an expected move, even after the Cade Phillips announcement. Estrella has interest from multiple blue blood schools, including an offer already that cannot be matched justifiably. If Coach Barnes found him as valuable as others do, he would still be here. Onwards!
