Statistics show that trans people are over four times more likely than cisgender people to be victims of violent crime. We recognize the lives of transgender people that we have lost so we can work to ensure that this violence does not continue.

The first Trans Day of Remembrance was organized in 1999 by trans advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith (1st) as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester (2nd), a trans woman who was murdered in her home in 1998 because of her gender identity. masstpc.org/wp-content/upl…
