I'm so mad. Once again, got a paper accepted, but Ref2 wants me to add 4 references all having a single author in common, whereas Ref1 suggests 6 with another common author! This unethical behavior should be stopped by the editors. Should I say who those authors are? Thoughts?

@EdmundCB So will your students if you reject their essays 3/4 times because they exceed the word count. But check if it just made it progressively shorter each time. It can not count

AI is marvellously weird. So I am creating imaginary CVs for a hiring exercise. To be helpful these must fit word counts that the students themselves have (for example their CV). It took two iterations to persuade AI that I really "meant" the word count I initially gave it. Why?

@EdmundCB It is a well-known phenomena, but I do not think there is a name for it. Very, VERY tricky to research other than by self-anecdote though.

Is there a name for stating an (urgent) problem to yourself and getting on with something else only to find (on waking or later) that your brain "pushes" you a solution? Has this been researched (tricky though it would be?) Can one "promote" this phenomenon and if so how?

I am surprised at how often people in a discussion of solutions present a long list of things that _can't_ happen. Do they think this helps? Are they aware that they are doing it?

@steve47285 Rather, both "machines" and "algorithms" are useful ways of understanding the brain, currently much in vogue. However, these analogies both have limitations compared to reality.

@Valen10Francois This particular reprentation under-represents very population dense areas as the dots merge and emphasises medium dense areas. Spain has a population of about 50m, not ver different from France's 67m for about the same area.

France in contrast is crazy spread out. Remember camping in France and thinking that you were never truly alone, there's always that one farm or hamlet a few minutes away
