It's over because people don't value research. They think it's an insane luxury to be able to get a PhD and people who do it should suffer for it. The number of people I've met *who work at universities* and dismiss research blows my mind.
The Atlantic@TheAtlantic

Doctoral programs are pausing or cutting back admissions. This is just the latest signal that the future of the university is under threat, Ian Bogost writes: theatlantic.com/science/archiv…

Ahhh, Elon's going to redo air safety. I guess the last 20+ years of near perfect safety in commercial air travel couldn't go on forever.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

@SecDuffy The safety of air travel is a non-partisan matter. SpaceX engineers will help make air travel safer.

@samhaselby I can’t believe adopting this message across all of our professions and in liberal institutions hasn’t created a vibrant coalition with a vision for a better tomorrow.

Negative American exceptionalism involves pretending this only applies to the US but there is no nation in the Western hemisphere, at least, that is not a settler colonial enterprise built on indigenous land.

Look folks, like William James said ('it's turtles all the way down") when the old lady asked him what was under the turtle on which the earth stood, it's empire all the way down. Negative American exceptionalism is just as distorting as the positive variety.

I love that conservative legal thinkers are now just openly advocating the subversion of the judiciary. (Also he turned off comments so he knows he’s full of shit.)

@Eli_B_Cook @Burrite I’ve decided to be like Grant after the Battle of Shiloh, when he “gave up all idea of saving the Union except by complete conquest.” Hard war it is.

@joefrancis505 @Eli_B_Cook It's good but it does read a little (to me) like you're holding back a bit. You have a point you're trying to land and maybe it's in what's clipped and follows, but if it isn't just lay it out and be provocative. The further I get from my book, more I wish I'd thrown down a bit

@Burrite I get that roguelikes are supposed to be punishing, but losing extremely rare weapons for Xing out in menus before even going for any objectives is kind of bullshit. in general I do think Freelancer is way too buggy not to have some kind of quicksave

going on a Hinge date but when I get there she has the Hitman “enforcer” bubble over her head and when she looks at me for too long she starts screaming “you’re DISGUSTING!” until 4 armed guards storm the restaurant and gun me down

@Burrite I hated Frelancer until I actually learned how to play the game and now I really love it, even though I lost my fucking Shortballer and half my Merces yesterday when I paused my game literally seconds into a level and bumped my mouse while getting up and exited to main menu

@ByYourLogic The freelancer stuff is fun. Or just doing it all in a clown suit with the exploding duck. It’s really great.

@Burrite it’s really such an incredible game. I love that you can play it like a standard stealth game by going for SASO on every level and also as an extremely macabre slapstick puzzle game and that both ways of playing are incredibly fun

@Burrite I love how the diarrhea gun/grenade is like a guaranteed Silent Assassin rating. I played WOA like a regular stealth game that had a disguise mechanic when I first picked it up. only later did I realize it’s a puzzle game that’s heavily based on giving people diarrhea

This is the political culture of the Ivy League humanities, where one's first response to disagreement is to accuse the other person of racism, misogyny, or imperialism, taking over the Dems. Good for posturing; terrible for winning elections.
David Weigel@daveweigel

Jonathan Capehart asks for a show of hands: "How many of you believe that racism and misogyny played a role in VP Harris's defeat?" Every hand goes up, and DNC members in crowd also raise their hands. "You all passed," says Capehart.
