As of Aug. 1, 2025, Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is no longer using the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. With updated X terms of service that allow content posted to be used for artificial intelligence (AI) training models, not suitable for work (NSFW) content and the reinstatement of controversial banned accounts, CCPS began to move away as a school system from the platform in Spring 2025. The official social media platforms for use by CCPS, including schools, centers and all other school system affiliated accounts, are Facebook and Instagram. CCPS-affiliated X accounts will be monitored, but not utilized for information sharing purposes.

The Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Career and Technical Education (CTE) program recently hosted a work-based learning community partners breakfast to recognize the positive impact that work-based community partnerships have on CCPS students. Over 50 partners attended the event on June 5 and were recognized for their support of the school system. Superintendent of Schools Maria V. Navarro, Ed.D., welcomed guests who attended and thanked community partners for their dedication to helping CCPS students become career ready post-graduation. Partners provided apprenticeship, internship and mentor/coaching opportunities for CCPS students and helped students gain real-world experiences. “Our community partners play a vital role in shaping the future of our students by providing meaningful work-based learning opportunities,” Sandy Rooney, CTE specialist said. “These partnerships not only benefit the students, but also strengthen the community as a whole by encouraging collaboration, promoting career awareness and ensuring that young people are equipped to meet the demands of the evolving job market,” she said. Recent CCPS graduate Aaron Smith of North Point High School along with Brent Garner of SMECO shared their experience during a panel discussion working together in the apprenticeship program. Representatives from Spring Dell Center Zach Sinsel and Tina Maddox also joined the discussion and chimed in with their experience working with CCPS students in the apprenticeship program with it being their second year partnering with CCPS to provide work-based learning opportunities for the students.

Marvin Jones, Ed.D., a 25-year veteran educator with Charles County Public Schools (CCPS), has been appointed Superintendent of Schools for Essex County Public Schools in Virginia. His appointment was approved yesterday by the Essex County School Board and is effective July 1. Jones – who currently serves as the CCPS Chief of Schools – recently announced his June 30 retirement from CCPS. While he leaves behind a 25-year legacy of leadership and commitment to CCPS staff and students, Jones said he looks forward to the next step in his career as Superintendent. “Moving on from Charles County Public Schools is such a bittersweet decision, my having had such a long and fulfilling experience here, but as difficult as it is to leave, I am just as excited about the next phase of my career. I look forward to the opportunity to impact so many children and families in Virginia, just as I have in Maryland all these years,” Jones said. To read the full story visit bit.ly/4kD0fya.
