Michael Carrick should be backed and given the job permanently in the summer. This turnaround doesn’t feel like just the usual new-manager bounce. It looks more like the work of someone who has kept things simple, understood the players quickly, and put them in positions where they can actually perform. It’s almost as if he had already been studying this team long before he was asked to step in as interim.
