Axel Rudakubana has been sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum of 52 years, for the murder of Elsie Dot Stancombe, Bebe King, and Alice da Silva Aguiar and the attempted murder of ten others after the attack in Southport on 29 July 2024.

The DPP’s response to questions around the release of information relating to the trial of Axel Rudakubana: "Questions have been raised as to why certain information about the Southport case could not be made public earlier.

Did you drive home after a few drinks at the pub last night? 🍻 Did you know you were still over the limit this morning but decided to get behind the wheel and drive to work? 🛞 Operation Limit – a national campaign which runs throughout December, aimed at preventing drug and drink related casualties across the Christmas period is now in full swing. Overnight and into this morning, 10 people between the ages of 20 and 64 were arrested on suspicion of drink or drug driving by officers patrolling all over #Merseyside. Locations included #Liverpool, #Huyton and #Wirral. Below is a picture from a two-vehicle crash in #Moreton where the driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. Drink and drug driving is a selfish act that causes devastation to families and heartbreak that will last a lifetime, inflicting damage that can never be undone. The Government will bring in place a new spiking offence later this parliament. The Crown Prosecution Service has welcomed the news, which will give another tool to prosecutors so we can play our part in tackling violence against women and girls.

"Reducing delay in the criminal justice system is my absolute highest priority... And it's closely followed by wanting to give better support to victims." Director of Public Prosecutions Stephen Parkinson tells #R4Today the system 'has got to do better'.
