@af_academy Bighorn lambing season continues as ewes seek secluded, sheltered places to give birth, typically at dawn or dusk. In just days, newborns go from wobbly legs to climbing rugged terrain, while staying close to their mothers for nursing and protection.

Biologists noted an exceptionally healthy herd with baby lambs demonstrating "zoomies" - jumping in excitement. In early summer, ewes from this herd move into nearby canyons and can travel as far north as the @af_academy (and beyond) for lambing activities. (More)

Our wildlife biologists are introducing solar powered GPS technology to help monitor the Rampart Bighorn Sheep Herd near Colorado Springs. Data will shed light on sheep habitat movement corridors, annual patterns, and any impacts from recreational development. (More)

On March 18, we conducted aerial seeding of the nutrient-rich reservoir bed. A native seed mix of sand lovegrass, oats, yellow blossom sweet clover, maximilian sunflower, and white yarrow was applied to support deer, turkey, quail, pheasant and other wildlife.

Two Buttes fish salvage order rescinded after Baca County reservoir dries. Today's view as compared to the reservoir in a good fishing year. Learn more: cpw.state.co.us/news/03242026/…

Officer Heather Prather displays abandoned monofilament fishing line she untangled from shrubs along Lathrop State Park shorelines. Abandoned line threatens the health and welfare of birds and aquatic life. Line and lure collection points are located throughout the park.

Good news! Aquatic Biologist Carrie Tucker says staff & volunteers at Lake Pueblo and Cherry Creek reservoirs completed walleye spawning operations Thursday with 127 million fertilized eggs delivered to Pueblo and Wray hatcheries. (More)

Today at Lake Pueblo: A family of four - each parent kayaking with a young child onboard - fought winds pushing them away from shore. The father capsized. Crews rescued everyone safely - a lucky day thanks to @COParksWildlife & local first responders. (More)
