I made a post celebrating my people and our culture, and one udene tried to be smart with, “go and inherit land in your father’s compound, let’s see.” 😂 First of all, if I go home today and tell my uncle or my umunna I need land, they’ll give it to me with the speed of light. Don’t get it twisted. Now let me educate you. In Igbo culture, land is traditionally not allocated to women, not because women lack value or due to misogyny, but because of how lineage and inheritance are structured. Men remain within the family, marry, have children, and continue the lineage. The land stays within that line, preserved, not scattered. Women, on the other hand, marry into other families, where they build and grow. Their children inherit from their husband’s lineage. So no, it’s not a “loss”, it’s structure. It’s continuity. It’s wealth preservation. And let’s be clear, this doesn’t mean women cannot own, use, or even be given land. That narrative is shallow. What you don’t understand is this: Igbo women carry value. Wherever we go, we build. We add. We elevate. And that same system you’re trying to mock? It protects family wealth. Nobody is walking in to “marry for land” , no jigolo chances, because it doesn’t work like that. The land remains within the family, preserved across generations. We know the value of our women. That’s why when an Igbo daughter leaves, she doesn’t go empty, she goes to build and to conquer. It’s not like you can relate sha.

Sometime last year...i raised a point in supporting the abolishing of iri-ekpe (taking your brother's properties when he die without having a son) in my umunna (kindred)...It didn't scale through....I had to wait for elections of umunna to come...I contested for chairman and lost with 3 votes....then i was made the vice chairman unopposed....The opportunity to put an end to that taking over of a man's properties because he didn't have a son now lies in my own hand.... February 8th 2026 being umunna meeting... chairman travelled to China for business meetings and handed full authority to me to be proceeding on affairs of the meeting...I did what I have to do....I used just one meeting to put an end to that trash.....The only way you can inherit your brother's properties in my umunna currently is if he died without having a child at all and the wife die after and leaving no one else that's when you can now enter..... We will keep rising!!!!

All your brother’s properties belong to his wife and kids. Not you as a sibling.

One of the cleaners at my former place of work, always with his Earpiece listening to music while he cleans, i greet everyone at the office like we're pals, hand shake and a "guy hug", eveyone, at the end of most months , i go around giving some of the cleaners 2k each or 1k depending on how much of my salary I've spent before e enter, including the security guys too, i do this because i know how much they earn, and i can tell you its not enough to survive in Lagos, Fast forward to about 6 years later, i had left the organization and i was part of a committee organizing an event for some executives for a retreat at a very nice resort here in Lagos, i never met the manager in person , but we spoke on the phone e few times and i was on the call most of the times with the concierge team. The day we brought the team, the concierge personel was introducing eveyone to the team, and a tall fine gentle man walked in and she said "oh here's our Manager, before i could even open my hand for a handshake, he screamed my name, hugged carried me off my feet, i was still trying to figure out who he was, and he said its me( called his name) , i couldn't believe it , he was the same cleaner guy at my former place of work, now a whole manager?!!!. I hugged him and carried him this time , i was super excited. Apparently while he was a cleaner he was also finishing at National open university, he told how he's always looking forward to the 2k from me every month.😁 . To cut the long story short, i got 70% discount on everything i did, the room, the food i paid almost nothing. 😁. God can lift anyone from anywhere, never look down on anyone , i treat eveyone with same respect.

I used to count things on my body that had once touched the same air as my father. I would randomly remember him and start counting... "Daddy met my hairband, this gown, he met this ribbon, he bought us this cassette, this book..." "Daddy met this plate, this curtain..." As the years went by, I would barely find 1 or 2 things, that was here while he was still with us. The skirt I had on when he passed, I hoarded for years till I gave it out. It got to a point where I could no longer find a personal item, I had outgrown all of them and the rest had worn out. When it was over 7 years, the only thing that had touched the same air as my dad, that I had left, was my shoulder length hair. We still had household items: clothes we wore as babies, plates, even my Dad's special plate and cup, curtains, my Dad's car, my mum's too. Our house got burnt to the ground a year ago and I no longer have things to count. His car was packed in our compound for over a year, and even when my mum got a new car, she would refuse to sell her old rickety Golf that "her dear" got for her. I've forgotten Daddy's smell, his voice too, and somehow his face, I keep looking at pictures tho. Daddy would dance in front of the TV, and because he was a huge man and covered most of it, we would all be giggling and begging him to stop (he was a bad dancer, I got it from him). I wish he stayed longer. He was as busy as he was available, he was such a dancer, a bad one, but a dancer. I hope he's still dancing wherever he is, I hope he has little children to dance with and for. Daddy's smell is now very faint in my memory. I can still remember his hands tho, his dentition, His feet, faintly. I have his feet too. The only thing of his I have left is his name. It's been 13 years without Daddy, I wonder if he has children there to help him scratch and pick his back. I wonder how he has been drinking water without his stainless cup, is there suya there? He must really miss it. Was he scared in his final moments? Not even of death, but of dying in front of me and breaking my heart? I often wonder if he knew he wasn't going to make it through the night and if he was sacred or heartbroken by the knowledge of that. When I told him that night that things were going to be better, I hope he saw the strength in my voice. Adolphus would have been such a playful grandpa, we'll all miss him, our children too. Rest well my Angel❤️

I just found out that whenever i leave for work, my security man takes my key from where i keep it, opens my door and puts stuff like drinks/water in my fridge and takes them out before i come back. I left the house this morning and came back because i forgot something i was supposed to give to someone. I opened my fridge and i saw stuff that i didn’t put there. I asked him and he admitted to it. I don’t even know how to feel about it.

Every Lenten season, my neighbour becomes a different person. Normally, he’s the lively type—always joking, always playing music in the compound. But once Lent begins, everything about him slows down. One evening, he knocked on my door and said, “Come, let’s go for Stations of the Cross.” I hesitated. I had heard about it, but I had never really taken it seriously. Still, I followed him. When we got to the church, it was quiet. People were already gathered, moving slowly from one station to another. At each stop, they paused, prayed, and reflected. At first, I didn’t really understand what was going on. We moved from one point to another, reading, kneeling, standing… repeating the same pattern. But somewhere along the way, something changed. At one of the stations, they talked about Jesus falling under the weight of the cross. I glanced at my neighbour—his head was bowed, eyes closed. And for some reason, it hit me. This wasn’t just about what happened years ago. It felt like a reminder of the struggles we all carry every day—the pressure, the disappointments, the silent battles no one sees. As we continued, I started paying more attention. Each station felt personal. Each prayer felt heavier. By the time we got to the end, the whole place was silent. No noise, no distractions—just people thinking, reflecting. On our way back home, my neighbour didn’t say much. That was unusual for him. After a while, he finally spoke. He said, “You see why I don’t joke with this period? It helps me reset.” I didn’t reply immediately. Because deep down, I understood what he meant. Sometimes, in the middle of all the noise of life… you need moments like that—to slow down, reflect, and face yourself. Since that day, whenever he knocks during Lent, I don’t hesitate. I just follow.

This young lady explained the role of Sowore in the Nigerian politics very well. He’s an opposition to opposition, planted by the ruling government to distract and divide the opposing forces against the government. Take a listen.

I met this guy in a flight, we connected so well. He really has money- he spent on me for almost 3 months even bought me iPhone 16, gave my kid bro a PS5 too. One day he invited to his place and he tried to touch me but I refused. This guy booked my ride around 1am and told me to leave his house . The next day he came to my house with his army brother, took the iPhone 16, some of the designer clothes and the PS5. I asked him so you were doing all these for sex and he boldly said yes.😭

After my boyfriend and I finished our NYSC camping in Gombe state, due to insecurity, we both applied for redeployment and we were redeployed to different states....I was redeployed to Edo state whilst he was redeployed to osun state. Not too long after I settled in Edo state, I had another crisis, I was rushed to a hospital near my PPA, the doctor tried to stabilise me with oxygen but I was still struggling for breath. The doctor asked to speak with a family member to get my medical history since I couldn't speak, I didn't want to give him my mum's number because my dad had died and I didn't want her overthinking again, I just gave him my boyfriends number. He called my boyfriend and explained my situation....all through that night, the doctor and my man were busy communicating till I started getting a hold of my breathing little by little....my boyfriend is also a pharmacist so it was easy for both of them to work together. By the next evening, I was breathing very fine, the doctor asked me the relationship I had with my boyfriend, I told him we were dating and that we just met in NYSC camp. The doctor told me....that man cares a whole lot about you and he seems very intelligent, I hope you never take him for granted. I was just stunned, I didn't know what transpired at night but I know my boyfriend didn't sleep until I regained some breathing strength because the doctor's phone kept beeping from time to time all through the night. He's my husband now and we are blessed with 3 beautiful children 🥰❤️ © Buchi & Buchiress
