@ownsomeshares @nick_mccleery That would be fair. But more people understand the word monopoly even if it's not used in the strictest (actual) definition. There are many other words used similarly.

@CapitulationUK @nick_mccleery I’m fully aware what a monopoly is, thanks. Tesco isn’t one. You could possibly argue it operates in an oligopolistic market - but that’s it.

Hard to think of a more midwit position than being anti-supermarket. Tesco is an unmitigated force for good. It supplies tens of millions of people with luxuries their grandparents couldn't imagine, employs 1 in 200 people, and runs on paper thin margins through sheer competence
Ross McCafferty@RossMcCaff

Such a scam that right wingers have suddenly switched to 'profit margins' when discussing supermarkets, because its far easier to say 'oh poor Tesco is scraping by on a 2% profit margin' rather than consider whether Tesco making £3bn a year while people starve is good

@ownsomeshares @nick_mccleery I guess you've little experience of being a supplier to the chains You can joke all you want, they are the ones laughing It's possible to want reasonable choice, without price fixing and controls without also being a communist btw Every company's goal is to become a monopoly

@financefraz hmmm, I'll look into it a bit more. I have several cars/insurance policies. I'd have to tell them that I have a part time delivery job, I know one would just say yeah but no. But nugget of info saved for the future thanks.

@salowa87 @OrevaZSN 100% correct But the game must be played My current position hasn't been updated in nearly a year, it still shows my old employer But then I'm not looking for a job currently Or in Onlyfans parlance; I'm doing a private show right now.

@autocar Fines proportional to income as it is in certain parts of Europe. Flat rate 500quid is just an attack on the majority, not a way to get people to actually slow down.

I work with 2 zoomers on my team. They show up with Culver's, order Subway from Uber Eats/Doordash, and then get a pizza from the restaurant next door on their way home. They spend $50+ feeding THEMSELVES. On an eight hour shift. For a white-collar job. They then complain they don't make enough and can't feed their kids (yes, they both have kids and SO at home). I have brought them meal-prep kits, including some big enough for the entire family, with instructions on how to make it from the discount grocery store (Aldi) not even a mile from our property. They refuse to do it. You know who does follow my cost-saving recipes? The Gen X lady 5 years older than me. Fuck off.
🌽🌽 Erica, The White Trash Socialist 🌽🌽™️@herosnvrdie69

I refuse to do to Gen Z what Gen X and boomers did to us. Gen Z literally DOESNT eat out as much as previous generations because they literally can’t afford it because of inflation. You are making up a group of people to be mad at off of one tweet.

I stopped being sad about roadkill decades ago. It happens. Circle of life. But today, I saw a couple squirrels checking on a buddy who didn’t make it, and for some reason that was so much sadder.

As a longtime automotive technician, I have noticed through the years that almost every time manufacturers come up with new and improved it ends up costing the car owner more money. Here is one example. A simple thermostat, which served us fine for years has now been replaced with a water control valve that is actuated by the car’s computer. So we went from a part that cost around $15 to one that now is $250 and up.

@MatthewJDalby Cool. So you're at Euston station a bit quicker. Now what? An arduous journey across flithy London on a crammed overheated tube train on an outdated system not designed at all to be helpful to visitors.

With Reform UK, it's always about 'looking after our own' until it comes to feeding children. Labour is providing over 6,400 children across Kent County Council with free breakfast clubs. Reform UK literally want to take the food from their mouths. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…

@AstronoPriest @FaringForwards @kartosiewicz When travelling most Americans I meet are left leaning and apologising for Trump. You should see their heads pop off when they learn some of us Brits fucking love him. Most Americans come to the UK and do London then Shakespeare and maybe Oxford. Inevitable bias.

It used to be that men left school at 15 and walked into a job that paid well enough to liberate a future wife from her job. These days there is no such job that pays nearly enough to do that. Hence why I'm eventually going to have to go back to work.
Gary Donovan@Fan2013Dexter

@salowa87 @MoneyQuotesX The vast majority of men at least White western men want to provide for a wife and children like it used to be. The problem is it's nearly impossible for a man to be a breadwinner and to be a traditional or old fashioned breadwinner. This is the largely the cause of MGTOW today.

As a man now approaching a fatherly age, I think it's sad that young people go to work every day and struggle to afford to buy lunch. As a society, we ought to come up with a solution to this. This isn't normal, working people buy meals on the job in most countries I've been to. Unless you live in Spain where people go home for three hour lunch breaks. I don't understand the middle aged scumbags lecturing struggling young people trying to do the right thing and make it in the world to shut up and eat a baloney sandwich. Maybe I'm just out of touch because of lingering zombie catholicism or because I am an ethnic white. But there's no way this Jewish-Indian Dickensian miser America fully devoid of basic empathy has a future.
