About a month ago, Ochanya's case was brought up again to the space after being swept under the carpet for several years, we talked about it for a while now it's gone cold again. Whereas the perpetrators are living freely enjoying their lives like nothing happened. Look at this picture and tell me if it were your sister, your daughter, your granddaughter or even your niece, would you allow it get cold? seeking justice starts with one person, let it start with Ochanya. #Justiceforochanya

A reminder of Ochanya's story and where things stand now. Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje was just five years old when she was sent to live with relatives in Benue State to attend school. By age eight, the abuse began from her aunt's husband and their son. It continued until she was thirteen. By 2018, her health had broken down. She suffered from Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) and other complications. Her aunt allegedly hid eleven medical results from her parents. She died on October 17, 2018, at 13 years old. In 2022, her uncle was acquitted of rape and murder. Her aunt was convicted of negligence and sentenced to five months in prison. Her cousin Victor, one of the abusers, has been on the run since 2018. Now, the family's lawyer has shared more details from the court judgment. According to the records, Winifred, who first reported the abuse, reportedly failed to cooperate with investigators. The lawyer notes that if she had, it could have made a difference in the pursuit of justice. This case remains a scar on our memory, a reminder of how victims can be failed at every turn, even by those who knew the truth. We remember Ochanya, not only for what she suffered, but also because her story demands that we never let such failures be forgotten.

Lmaooo if this girl puts out a statement online condemning all Ochanya went through, shows solidarity for the # tag and then go and hug her father behind, nobody will know btw but she choose to publicly stand by her people which is a good lesson on loyalty over morals I guess 💀
blessing Ailen@ib_Ailen

This stoopid girl is actively reposting posts that are in support of her lmao 🤣 We all know what we are doing and this is the reason why we won’t leave her alone. And what did the first poster mean by that tweet?? If I ever find myself in a situation like this best believe I’m removing myself from my family immediately Nonsense

All of you welcoming Winifred back and also not saying anything about the case, it's thunder that will strike your bumbum. I would have said may your girls experience what Ochaya did experience but I'm a girl's girl and no girl should ever experience such evil. Once again, thunder will strike all of una bumbum. Your father and brother raped a 13-year-old child who came to your parents for a better education. She wanted more in life, a better world, quality education, and she came to your parents to help her achieve it, but her life was cut short by your father, mother, and brother. Winifred, why are you unbothered about your monstrous family who cut a promising child's life short? 😡😡 #justiceforochanya #justiceforochanya #justiceforochanya #justiceforochanya

Winifred's mother, Mrs. Felicia Ogbuja, hid 11 test results conducted on Ochanya during her stay with them before they finally abandoned her at the hospital and called the parents to come stay with her. You all are now saying Winifred didn’t know that her mother, father, and brother were raping, molesting, and having anal sex with an 8-year-old till she turned 13 years old under the same roof she lived in. #justiceforochanya #justiceforochanya #justiceforochanya #justiceforochanya

Most Nigerians on this app have low IQ that’s why Elon Musk and the other guy don’t rate us. Ochanya and Winifred’s issue is a very sensitive one. If you can’t use your head, it’s better to skip it instead of insulting the intelligence of people on this app. As you see me like this , ah no get any single take on the issue . Make I face my 10k laptops project before you people tell me to STFU.

What happened to Ochanya is sad and unfortunate. She was a child and she deserves justice. Since trending the case has not worked. It is high time we took action. I would ask us to raise money and reopen the case, but we cannot do that without the consent of the family. We will raise the money and provide them a lawyer. But I need someone to put us in contact with the family. If you can do that, it would be much appreciated. As for Winifred, please do what you want to do. Na una sabi. I do not subscribe to punishing another person for the crime committed by another. It is a criminal matter. Twitter is also the only place you expect someone to throw their family under the bus for public validation. I expect her to put out a statement, but that is her prerogative. What concerns me now, is that I need someone to connect us with the family and we take it up from there. Thank you.

As the solicitor to the family of the late Ochanya, I have been hesitant and very cautious about making public statements regarding this tragic case. However, people have been tagging and reaching out to me for clarifications. @Winifunds has very serious questions to answer regarding what she knows about the circumstances of the death of Miss Ochanya. I have attached certified excerpts from the judgement of the Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, delivered on 28th April, 2022 in the charge filed by NAPTIP against Mrs. Felicia Ogbuja (Winifred’s mother). Mrs Felicia was convicted and sentenced to five months imprisonment for failing to protect the late Ochanya who was under her care. If you read page 14 of the judgement, you will see that Winifred’s name came up in the course of the proceedings. A witness testified under oath that Winifred caught her brother (Victor Ogbuja), who is still on the run, and reported to their father, Mr. Andrew Ogbuja. Based on what I know, Winifred refused or failed to cooperate with the investigators. She failed to make a statement regarding her role in the case. Efforts by investigators to get to her proved abortive. If she had cooperated, it would have likely had a profound impact on the quest for justice for Ochanya. That is all that I can say at this time.

Ochanya’s lawyer just made a post saying that Winifred is refusing to cooperate with investigations. Winifred also said she can’t tender an apology because that would mean she’s admitting to the crime.

@Hybrid_Ola Let’s be for real, in as much as the father and brother deserve to face the wrath of the Law, but do you people think it’s really easy for her to give them up that easily? I mean you’re talking about her father and brother? A different route should be taken to seek justice!!!
