Allow me to introduce you to this mountain of a man; my Uncle Barry. He passed away this week following a long battle with cancer. He lived a full but challenging life, born into a era in which neurodiversity and mental health were poorly understood. At 6ft 7in and 20st, he was quite the local celebrity. Often referred to as ‘The BFG’ which he absolutely was. His passing has thrown off a few plans recently, so apologies for those noticing that I’m replying to emails even slower than usual. Childcare tweaks and reshuffles galore. Thanks as ever to my great @Chews_Health and @TPMPodcast teams for always keeping this rolling. Here’s a lovely pic of him with my wife Charlotte and cousin Stacy.

Firstly, it’s worth remembering that we see each other’s ‘failures’ and that we have to indulge lazy stereotypes to generalise… BUT every day I hear from patients about their dismissive, under-treatment in the public sector AND their ineffective, over-treatment in the private sector. So for those who want to play that divisive game, A PLAGUE ON BOTH YOUR HOUSES! UK Physiotherapy’s reputational challenges are complex and deep rooted. Also, if this helps anyone else…. yes I do sometimes find it hard. I’m ok with looking different to everyone else but operations can sometimes take me back to memories of how this all started and that’s hard mentally.

So, in Dublin following the International Private Practitioners Association conference; now in a sports bar watching the rugby with the South Africans & the Irish - have decided I will be Switzerland ie politically neutral (in order to get out alive)

Day 2 of the International Private Practice Association meeting; some new members to meet, a new strategic plan to discuss & common themes relevant to us all about advocacy & promotion of private physiotherapy (& some Irish dancing too! Thanks to the Irish Society of physio hosts
