Have been an absolute puddle all week as I had to say goodbye to my pup Nug after her 2 year battle with lymphoma. 😢 It’s funny, 9 years and 7 months somehow feels like a blink and a lifetime all at once. From the Brooklyn streets, to the Colorado mountains to the Cali beaches, no dog lived it better than this girl. Hundreds of hikes, bars, parks, airport floors, strange beds in strange cities.. my girl was the ultimate companion. We met a couple weeks after my dad passed in 2016. She helped me crawl out of the darkest place. It was just me & my girl city to city until I eventually met my wife/her 2 pups and our fam of 2 ultimately became a fam of 5… then 6 👶 She was a vizsla which means the ultimate Velcro dog aka sewn to my hip more often than not. She was this incredibly sweet, velvet-eared little soul that always left a mark on whoever she met. She was the ultimate fighter. Fifty-nine chemo sessions. Fifty-nine times she walked in brave and walked out with that tail wagging like it was a walk in the park. We tried every experimental drug in the book. The nurses fell in love with her immediately. When we’d drop her off at the hospital, protocol was to leave the dogs in cages all day. Not Nug, she walked around the back off leash instead. Cali had these weird cancer-drug-importing laws and one of the nurses traveled to Arizona a couple times to smuggle whatever in for my girl. That speaks to the big personality she had / how she was the ultimate love. Her spirit never gave up. She would have kept fighting but it was her body that broke down in the end. When you let me know Monday night you had no more fight to give, you let go with the same grace you carried through everything. You lived a bigger life than most people will, all with this over the top loving energy that made everyone fall in love with you. I’ll miss the weight of you against my leg babygirl. The way you followed me from room to room like I’d otherwise disappear. The way you looked at me letting me know I was your whole world. My little shadow. I don’t have the closest family in the world, so you were my constant through every season the past decade. Thank you for the fight my girl. 9 years and 7 months together, those last 2 sucked but you did them with unbelievable courage and were the best big sister. You can be free now. No more chemo. No more tired body. No more fighting. I can already see you up there running through endless fields with that dumbass look on your face 🥹 Thank you for getting me through my toughest times and every night curled up close. I will always carry you with me babygirl 😪💔
