@janoldenburg My alternative model and motto, is: "Ask not: Why is my patient non-compliant? INSTEAD, ask: What did I not hear, not offer, not ask?" cs

-do I try to understand why my patient didn’t make our appt? -Or do I get defensive when a patient gets angry with me for a system that is failing them?…” “Start the change we need…” “Make different choices.” Well said! #Quality2024 2/3

The next keynote at #Quality2024 is being live streamed & open to all. It starts at 4.15pm this afternoon: "The healthcare sector is responsible for almost 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and if it was a country it would be the 5th largest polluter in the world. But how do we reduce waste, improve efficiency and decrease carbon footprint while still prioritising safety? In this keynote session, we will hear from Hackney-based climate activist Daze Aghaji on why it’s so important to consider our connection to the planet world, and Anthony Costello, Professor of Global Health and Sustainable Development, on what this means for health and care." Watch it here (you can watch the recording too): internationalforum.bmj.com/london/live-fr…

This should be a strategic initiative embedded from the top down as the impact is that big. When we ask "what matters to you", "what is important" of patients, families, caregivers AND staff, we change the conversation ➡️ impacts outcomes + experience of care #WMTY @WmtyWorld

PSA: Survivors of medical trauma are frequently invited to speak at conferences. The stories they tell are harrowing and educational for anybody who cares for patients, which is why they are popular participants in plenary sessions and panel discussions. 1/3

@DrHelenAnderson @caspertown42 @AndreaParkin2 @alisonleary1 @TheQNI Much nursing work is invisible, especially the consistent continuum of 'care organisation'. Nurses quietly/sub-consciously make hundreds of minor adjustments/responses to patient care and care system around the patient bringing massive net benefit to safety/care/experience/flow.

The complexity of nursing is hidden (often by nurses). Nurses contribution to patient safety is evidenced in over 1,000 papers & yet there is still a demand for more research - how do we help nurse leaders articulate that we don’t need more papers ? @alisonleary1 @TheQNI
