The MEE is promoting carbon neutrality for organizers of various large-scale events in China. On March 14th, the National Stadium achieved carbon neutrality for its first major event of the year, using China Certified Emission Reductions (CCER).

On Dec. 5, Li Gao, vice minister of MEE, attended a news conference held by SCIO, introducing China's new NDC targets, South-South cooperation, COP30, national carbon market etc. to promote a full transition towards green economic and social development.

China played a constructive role at COP30 in Belem, Brazil, with Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu attending high-level meetings and Vice-Minister Li Gao leading the Chinese delegation. The team engaged in 40+ bilateral talks and hosted a series of events. #COP30

In January 2024, China’s National Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Trading Market was officially launched. By the end of November 18, 2025, cumulative CCER trading volume reached 4.56 million tonnes, with a transaction value of RMB344 million.

By the end of October 2025, the cumulative trading volume of Carbon Emission Allowance reached 770 million tonnes, with a transaction value of RMB51.82 billion. The transaction value for the year of 2024 alone amounted to RMB18.11 billion, setting a new historical record.
