This is a pretty wild move. I wouldn’t want to step into that supplemental AD role—you’re almost guaranteed to do more work than the position is actually worth. It feels like schools try to cut costs by expecting the same responsibilities, just with less pay & less time.

🚨MY OPINION:🚨 I have learned that the Grove City (Pa) School Board will vote in May to eliminate the full time athletic director position to save money. They will inexplicably attempt to make the athletic director a supplemental position. Grove City has 21 varsity programs which have been a significant bright spot for the school, students and community. The school has hosted District and PIAA playoff games recently with more to follow with the ongoing Forker Field renovations. Current AD Casey Young has been at GC for 20 years doing an excellent job. A professional athletic director who has accommodated me and my staff at every occasion. Let me say it again, athletics are integral to the growth of students and the athletic director position is NOT a part time job. High School Sports are not a part time activity. Budget pressures are real, but this feels like classic short-term thinking. Making the role into a part time position signals to everyone—students, families, coaches—that sports are an afterthought, not a vital part of education. I surely hope the board members reconsider this decision. @GCASDK12 @JoshuaJWeaver

@buildingaclub @PaulSpacey The problem is those Dads now have D or C licenses & think they’re these “big time” coaches now. The whole licensing program is broke. It’s just like a bachelor’s degree. Everyone has one and they’re meaningless. I’m all for educating non-soccer people. But something needs fixed.

@PaulSpacey @CoachCH14 It’s solving a problem from 20 years ago when most coaches were dads who played little league and had no idea how to coach soccer. Ironically, the fact that they left us to figure it out for ourselves was for the best.

Control is the problem in US Youth Soccer… Some clubs and leagues are doing it right—then there’s this. Don’t forget they’re still kids who should be enjoying the game before the real world hits. We’re trying to treat them like professionals so young.

Nate Milsom is one of the best ADs I’ve had the opportunity to work with. Having a leader who’s been in the coaching shoes himself makes a huge difference—he truly understands & supports his coaches. He did an outstanding job at Carlynton & will do the same at Avonworth. 👏

Notable hire among WPIAL ADs last night. Avonworth hired Carlynton AD Nate Milsom. Avonworth had interim AD past few years. School has been terrific lately in sports. Nate also on WPIAL board of directors. Maybe he can get Avonworth to upgrade facilities, like the gym.

Let’s not pretend like it was Michigan’s TEAM mentality that won them a National Championship… Their starting 5 were all transfers who got paid to be there.💰 Just say what it really is - they built and bought the best team and it worked. 🏆

Proud to officially have my USSF National C License. The past few months have been a grind balancing this with coaching multiple teams and everything else life throws at you—but it’s been worth it. Grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with some great coaches.
