@BamaWaldo @CoachBurlage Going to second this. If you can teach “the why” of the calls, your players will be able to sort it on the field based off the situation/gameplan. We had our safeties make the determination of what coverage they wanted/needed to run.

@CoachBurlage That’s why I like teaching it like a toolbox. Give them the tools and they can either sort it out or you can gameplan it. The trick is what 3x1 checks and/or what else do you want to play.

Any split-field quarters guys also use 1-word calls? Any advice on how you carry “full” split field toolbox without having excessive volume of calls?

Just finished this book and couldn’t recommend it enough for fellow coaches or anyone in a leadership role. Great insight as to how a leader can navigate a team to the top AND stay there.
