Final post on last night game🗣️ “Defense wins Championships” Don’t get caught up in this new era of basketball that focuses on quick scoring, high-volume three-point shooting & fast-paced offense. That style can win games, but at the end of the day, Defense wins Championships!🏀

As a coach, we never use the words “revenge” so don’t use the words Gamecocks got revenge. We say, “let’s show them we are the better team, well prepared, and last game was not our best played game.” Congrats Gamecocks, you showed all that! 🏀 Championship Sunday 🏆

As a coach, I’m incredibly proud of how @dawnstaley team handled adversity—turning last season’s defeat into motivation, staying locked in all year, & returning to the same stage with a unified purpose. It was beautiful to watch the power of a TEAM committed to ONE common goal🏀

@CoachWells1911 It’s my least favorite call, coach. Because of the inconsistency. In college and NBA they never call it and then they will in the last 2 minutes of a close game.

Something I’ve noticed: 🏀 In the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, officials rarely call illegal screens, even though there’s a lot of late movement while setting screens. In high school it’s always called.

@JohnReynoldsSr I agree! Officials who truly understand the game have a strong feel for its rhythm & flow. They don’t just react to what appears on the screen—they evaluate whether a slight movement actually impacted the play. It’s the understanding of the game that sets good officials apart.

Congrats, Coach—wishing you all the best on your next move! I still think back to those days when we coached at “Five-Star Basketball Camp” at Hampden-Sydney College in VA. Back when @5starbasketball truly was the premier camp in the country—great memories!

Finally, I thought we are “THE”NORTH CAROLINA TARHEELS, blue blood program, Prestigious Program… all we have is 6 guys that can play on a NCAA tournament level…we should have a roster of McDonalds All-Americans! At least should be 8-9 deep with guys that can play in March 🏀

Tarheels just ruined my night!! Up 19…Coaching mindset Why not minimize VCU possession in the 2nd half…played so fast under 10min left in the game, gave VCU more possession. How can you play that fast when only play 6 players all 2nd half????
