I always think twice when it comes to share my solid (to me) investment
opinions on this profile
Often i feel like you don’t care and i’m just getting penalized by the algorithm
Yet there is a side of myself that truly desires to be right and to be loud about it
And this side of myself really wants to emerge when i talk about pokemon cards
Not only i’m up on these cards more than i am on any other investment i’ve made this year
I know what i’m doing!
And i now feel ok about sharing my souce with you sleepers.
Listen, when it comes to collect pokemon cards there are only a few specs that matter to me:
- cards have to be old
- cards have to trigger nostalgia
- cards have to be in top condition
To me, this translates into a very specific niche:
Cards designed by Ken Sugimori himself and cards that give me the same vibes, all in PSA10.
So i started collecting every card drawn by Ken Sugimori or similars, specifically 1st edition PSA 10. For TCG, this mostly means collecting cards from Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge sets.
Ngl during the first months of collecting i started to feel uncomfortable, i felt like I was wasting money on overpriced shit
I split my cards portfolio in two parts: one focused on the TGC and one focused on 1997 Bandai Carddass, my favorite set.
As i said i’ve been down only for months, then something happened: people begun to buy my cards!
And my cards are not average cards, my cards have been carefully handpicked! We are talking about 1st edition PSA 10.
This was also not random: i saw modern cards prices going crazy, i saw the 1st edition base set going crazy. Then i took a step back to develop my own thesis.
What i realized is that vintage pokemon cards are extremely scarce, expecially the ones drawn by Ken Sugimori himself, the father of Pokemon.
What i also realized is that some cards outside the TCG space are extremely unknown and underpriced
Given these informations i decided to ape more than $100k (almost 200) into this niche, with a global +16% on the carddass cards and a +30% on TCG cards since May 2025
That said, i forgot about the entire post purpose
