Pretty ironic that the first light pole is going in at our new home on today of all days! @willweatherford has been a guiding light for USF Athletics and our alma mater to say the least. When times felt dim, Will’s leadership, commitment and steadfast approach helped infuse a needed light, which will undoubtedly shine and continue to grow for decades to come. Bulls Nation, please join me in thanking Chair Weatherford on a job well done! Excited that Will is remaining on the USF Board of Trustees to continue carrying out our mutual unwavering mission and vision. With our amazing @USF_Pres Moez Limayem and (pending the BOT’s vote) incoming Chairman (the ultimate USF Bull) @mikegriffinFL, along with all of our leadership all working tirelessly together, the upcoming days and years will be USF’s brightest ever. @ColomBullsX @heiferlessbiped That’s all true, but there is more. New College used to be part of USF too. So Sarasota Manatee will be the 4th taken from USF.

This is absurd… It’s time USF makes an immediate hard push to open up a law school so we can send USF Law alumni to Tallahassee to represent our interests USF Lakeland —> Florida Polytechnic University USF Ft. Myers —> Florida Gulf Coast University USF Sarasota-Manatee - Next

@ASmilingMom4 @TallyBull @OzarkBull Losing our high earning alumni to other cities also equates to loss in local community investment, professional networking, political advocacy, etc all of which directly reduces alumni involvement and donations/investments back into the university

@TallyBull @OzarkBull @ColomBullsX There needs to be! My daughter is a law student at Duquesne, looking for legal internships in Tampa for the summer. She learned Tampa firms recruit from Miami, Jacksonville and out of state. People from Tampa leave to learn how to practice law, but don’t always come back.

@SanjayKurian @usfcardsfan Opening up a new college is definitely a time and resource intensive undertaking so a decade is very reasonable. I’d like to see a push from our leaders to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later. USF getting shafted by Tallahassee every chance they get is unsustainable

@ColomBullsX @usfcardsfan Also true. However, I do not think the public, or the legislature, think opening another law school is a priority. What could help is the relatively limited number of spaces eventually forces that. I think it’s at least 10 years away.

@SanjayKurian @usfcardsfan Florida is the country’s 3rd most populous state at 23 mill residents (2026 estimate) and is projected to grow another 2 mill over the next 8 years. Plenty of growth to sustain a 5th state law school

@usfcardsfan @ColomBullsX The law school? USF had their chance when FIU and FAMU (in Orlando) came online. Apparently they are expensive to operate. There are 4 state law schools and 7(?) Private ones. Another publcic law school unlikely anytime soon.

@SanjayKurian @usfcardsfan I’d argue it’s more expensive for USF in the long run to keep losing campuses. Who’s to say St. Pete campus won’t be next after we lose Sarasota Manatee?

@vendro2000 @OzarkBull Collaboration would be easier but at the end of the day their degree would be emitted from Stetson. We need die hard USF alumni representing us in Tallahassee - we have too few advocates for us in the capitol which is why we’ve been carved up every change they get

@OzarkBull @ColomBullsX Sincere question. How do you buy a university? Wouldn’t entering into a collaboration with them make more sense?

@OzarkBull Stetson University is private so I would think is more difficult to acquire than to found a law school at USF. We have a ton of area at the old Claw golf course that we can consider

@ColomBullsX This should be talked about more. Nothing USF can do academically is more important than building or buying a law school. My suggestion is to acquire an established school like Stetson, to have immediate brand value. It's insane that USF grads have to go elsewhere for law school.

The next chapter of our @USFAthletics partnership with Tampa General Hospital features another groundbreaking milestone! We were informed by Coach Hodgson that he will be leaving to become the new head men’s basketball coach at Providence. Congratulations and thank you to Coach Hodgson, Jordan and Jett! We had an incredible season, including our second regular season championship in the last three years and our first conference tournament title in the last 36 years. This year’s team earned not one, but two championship banners for the Yuengling Center rafters, and we’re forever grateful to our student-athletes, Coach Hodgson, his family and his staff. Coach said he would come and win championships and he delivered on that promise by leading the most successful season in the history of our program. Rest assured, we did everything within reason to try and retain Coach for the long term. We will always be proactive and aggressive in working to retain high performing coaches, but equally as important, we will also always be the ultimate stewards of our department’s financial resources. Through candid conversations throughout this process, we have been preparing for this possibility in recent weeks. This includes working diligently to put our program in prime position to land the perfect leader to not only build on this special season, but to also help take us to even greater heights in seasons to come. Bulls Nation, I am naturally biased, but we believe the short- and long-term opportunity of leading our men’s basketball program is second to none. The interest associated with this position has already been unprecedented in advance of it officially opening, which speaks to how far our program has come in recent seasons, how well it’s competitively resourced, and where we're going. In short, we could not be more excited about the future of USF Men’s Basketball and can’t wait to keep building together with every one of you! All Gas. No Brakes!!! Go Bulls!!!🤘🏻😤
