CUPE Ontario strongly endorses the demand from the Chiefs of Grassy Narrows and Wabaseemoong for an apology from Prime Minister @MarkJCarney. The PM made a callous and despicable remark on Monday as he joked about ‘outlasting’ Chrissy Isaacs. She is a Grassy Narrows woman who suffers from the effects of mercury poisoning and whose protest called for justice for the victims in her community. We do not expect our prime minister to dismiss with a cruel and demeaning comment an Indigenous community’s righteous demands for justice. His comment says much about the man and his views on social justice, accountability and respect for Indigenous sovereignty. Mr. Carney must heed the Chiefs’ request for an apology and accept their invitation to meet with them about their pursuit of justice for the people of Grassy Narrows and Wabaseemoong.
David Eby is a hard left ideologue driving BC off a fiscal cliff. Tommy Douglas always ran balanced budgets in Saskatchewan because he understood that debt = money going to interest payments instead of people. Debt also means higher taxes in the future, for a province that already has some of the highest taxes in North America.
