The moment has finally come—@GovKathyHochul has signed NY’s #MedicalAidinDying Act into law! This is a true milestone for terminally ill New Yorkers. Thank you to our bill champions and NY lawmakers for voting for compassion!

Today’s signing of the Medical Aid in Dying Act is a historic step for compassion, dignity, and personal autonomy in New York. Deeply grateful to Gov. Hochul, Senate Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Sen. Gustavo Rivera, Asm. Amy Paulin, advocates, and the patients and families who courageously shared their stories to make this possible.

Extending our gratitude today to the members of the @NYSenate who voted yet again to pass NY’s #MedicalAidinDying Act, with new amendments. @GovKathyHochul is expected to quickly sign the bill into law, paving the way for NYers to access this compassionate end-of-life choice.

The @NYSA_Majority just voted once more to pass the #MedicalAidinDying Act, and the bill now heads to the @NYSenate. A majority of NYers support medical aid in dying and expanded end-of-life care choices. We’re grateful to our Assembly champions for making this bill a reality.

Said Rachel Kretser, adjunct professor at Albany Law School and retired Albany City Court judge: “I think we really did make a difference, thanks in part to our work. New Yorkers will no longer have to suffer needlessly at the end of their lives.”

When she announced her intention to sign New York’s #MedicalAidinDying Act into law @GovKathyHochul spoke movingly about her experience of caring for a terminally ill loved one. “I realized it’s not about me, it’s about 20 million New Yorkers,” she said.

@GovKathyHochul @GovKathyHochul promised to deliver for New Yorkers and their families in 2026. After more than a decade of advocacy, expanded end-of-life care options for terminally ill New Yorkers are a priority for this year.

Returning to Albany in our yellow shirts felt extra special after @GovKathyHochul announced her support for NY's #MedicalAidinDying Act last month. Our team and advocates were proud to line up to show our gratitude to lawmakers for passing this compassionate legislation.

Daren Eilert, whose daughter Ayla said she “did not want to be in pain anymore,” told @SIAdvance that he will be elated once the bill is signed. Like Daren, we will keep advocating for compassionate end-of-life care choices until @GovKathyHochul’s pen hits paper.
