Conservation Blueprint was back in Indiana presenting at a solar permit hearing with the Orion Renewables Energy team for the Idlewild Solar project. Conservation Blueprint has recently been in Indiana supporting the @ENGIEgroup Copper Box Solar project. Our role is to explain how the vegetative cover designed for this site is being crafted to deliver multiple environmental benefits in addition to the clean renewable energy it could produce. A Prescribed Burn is one of the most cost-effective and impactful tools that we have to manage grasslands. The key part of this message is the word 'Prescribed'. These images are from a Prescribed Burn that had an escape occur during Red Flag weather conditions on 3/8/2026 in Howard County, Nebraska. A Prescribed Burn Plan follows a very specific and required recipe of weather conditions needed, number of personnel, type of equipment, personnel experience, etc., etc. If and when a 'prescription' or recipe for how to conduct the burn isn't followed, an escape like this can happen. Following the plan is how burns are conducted safely and with great management outcomes. Not following the plan is how unintended outcomes like this one can happen. Prescribed Fire is not a dangerous event or activity when the plan is followed, and the crew has the correct experience and equipment.
