I feel like it's time to leave. I've had a great time getting to know so many of you via Twitter. I wouldn't have made it through the pandemic without this site. But Musk has made clear that he wants Twitter to be the new Gab. See you on Mastodon, some other site, or IRL.

If U.S. citizens are not being wrongfully arrested by ICE, then why is ICE detaining so many U.S. citizens, which it has absolutely zero legal authority to do? To be clear, no U.S. citizen is obliged to provide proof of citizenship to an ICE agent.

There are also tools to move all of your posts from here to there (keeping the original post date), if you want. I'll be doing that soon and deleting my account here. I hope to see you all at Bluesky.

With the recent exodus from here, my followers on Bluesky exceed my followers here. So, for those with a few thousand followers, don't feel attached to this awful place. With a little time, you will end up with a similarly-sized, but much better, community there.

Kruse is absolutely right. Don't create content and give legitimacy to this place. There are other, non-Nazi bars.

@HoffProf Worried that your scholarship will disqualify you? Or, are you concerned that your lust for administrative power will undermine your academic pursuits?

If I were to start a new center at a law school, I think it would be called the "Center for Law," and it would be dedicated to the study of, well, law.

You know how you win over the kids? That's right you make a pop culture reference to a 60-year-old show that they've probably never heard of and its narrator who's been dead for 50 years that they've definitely never heard of.
Charles W. Herbster@CWHerbster

Imagine, if you will, a court in the United States of America where a sitting judge says he doesn’t want to hear all a witness has to say. That’s right, it seems like we are waiting on the nightly monolog from Rod Sterling to interrupt and say we are entering “The Twilight Zone.” Continuing with this story, visualize yourself in a nightmare where you are center stage and on trial. Everything in your future, and your family’s future is in the hands of one man. That man is a biased, liberal, New York state judge who has already rendered his decision even before hearing one word of testimony or rebuttal. Then, the man tells you he doesn't want to hear what you have to say in your defense. This is incomprehensible and seems as if we are watching a weird twist on a classic TV show, only it’s very real. This is what is happening to my friend, President Donald J. Trump. He is a defendant in a shame civil trial that has no victim. Never before in the history of New York State has anyone been tried for a financial crime with no victims. Nobody ever should be. The only way Democrats can prevent President Trump from taking back the White House is to prevent his name from being on the ballot. This whole circus has been put in play to do just that! As wrong as this is for my friend, it is worse for all Americans. If liberals in the judicial system can do this in full view of the public to Donald J. Trump, how can any of us ever defend ourselves from politically motivated prosecutorial overreach? Now more than ever, we must support Donald J. Trump. He is standing in the breach for all of us. We must defeat Democrats and the radical left who are trying to steal another election.

@msolurin IMHO, there are reasons to feel that her apology wasn't enough and she should have done more (although there are also countervailing arguments about why rape trauma makes that difficult). I just think "lied" is a dangerous word to use in this context. /end

@GChernack I didn't say it was the right decision. But, it wasn't as obvious as with a typical team in typical weather. There have been lots of drops and KU's turf is slippery. The last FG attempt (42 yds) wasn't close.

@bmaz I'm not sure about the definition of "moral turpitude," which I've usually associated with immigration law. But, I think so-called "process crimes" and crimes of dishonesty are often under-prosecuted and under-punished. But reasonable minds might disagree.

@bmaz Recognizing the relative seriousness of crimes of dishonesty is one of the (very) few things that state bars do better than criminal law.

Lol, Jenna Ellis was "not a crime of moral turpitude", Fulton County is a complete joke. Complete shitshow that a local DA is doing this. But the media slurps it up. This local garbage will change criminal law forever. Because Trump Derangement Syndrome. You wait.

@prisonrodeo But, as part of getting my mom (and me and my kids) to have Irish citizenship, I did some research (with the help of @ms_peaceweaver , thanks!) to find her grandparents. It's far easier to do things like that in Ireland, where all birth data is centralized.

@prisonrodeo One pair of my great-grandparents was alive through a large chunk of my life. In fact, their son, my grandfather, just passed away a week ago at age 98. In contrast, I never knew my mom's father (or his parents) because he died before I was born. Lifespans be crazy.
