@0xKeef @eliasmakos I’m an Anglo who prefers the French broadcast and pays a premium for it.

Developing language story in Quebec. French broadcasting rights for the Montreal Canadiens next season have yet to be determined. In English, situation is set. You subscribe to TSN and Sportnet, you can watch all the games. In French, it’s much more complex. Sources tell @JeremyFilosa that RDS already loses $500,000 per game they broadcast, and they cannot take on the share of games they’ve had in the past. TVA Sports is also bleeding money, and they cannot pick up the slack. They may even need to get out of broadcasting games completely. That leaves streaming to fill the gap. But if the Canadiens go that route, it would put the team in a situation where English fans have it much better than French fans, both in cost and complexity. The Habs are aware this would be a terrible look. And a bigger long term question is how will Canadian broadcasters keep up with escalating rights fees as the country’s economy continues to stagnate. This is the canary in the coal mine.

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Imagine if “territory” did still exist in the 70’s and 80’s…..Wayne, Dale and Paul Coffey on the Leafs vs. Mario and Mike Bossy and Ray Bourque? Good for the league it was abolished…..

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Yep. Love how on the face off just before the game winner vs USSR Wayne and Mario hade Dale take ( and win) the draw setting up one of the greatest goals in Canadian hockey history. He was an amazing human being as well.

This is a rare opportunity to have 28 Stanley cups at the dinner table. Doesn’t get any better than this ,1980-1983 the most dominant team to ever play

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage That’s awesome. It’s a shame he’s no longer with us. Maybe the greatest pure goal scorer in NHL history. Amazing the importance and impact hockey has on our culture. Kinda partial to Dale Hawerchuk myself. Played junior in my hometown when I was a kid….

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Béliveau wasn’t territorial. Trois Rivières ( Jean’s home town) is more than 85 miles from the Forum in Montreal. The territorial claim limit was 50 miles ( to the best of my recollection).

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Teams (like the Bruins) superseded this rule by courting Orr as a 12 year old then signing him to a “C Form” at 14 so it could be done. It was an interesting imperfect system but in no was accounts for all of MTL’s success.

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Hi again Jerry, I realize territorial rights ( 1942-67 50 miles from a teams home Aréna) was also a “thing” but that applied to all original 6 teams. 50 miles basically protects MTL from Grenville to Sorel to Granby in QC. Not a huge territory.

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Jerry, you claimed incorrectly that MTL’s success was because of a rule that gave them all French CDN players. I simply outlined the ACTUAL RULE to you which stretches from the depression era on and off to 1969.Thats the reason. Great job with the name calling and insults though!

@CornwallRoyals @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage There u go right on cue. Baby hab fan changing his OWN subject. wtf does anything prior to 1968 got to do with the topic? Clearly u don’t think that winning 2series to win a cup is dominance in a 6team league? Besides ur the one that mentioned 1968 & beyond. Ur Delusional buddy

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Grundman was not a good GM and was gone within five or six years….but guess what Jerry….his name is on the Stanley Cup. Not of his doing but there nonetheless. Have a nice day Jerry. Maybe we can find common ground with the Jays….or not. Whatever. Cheers!

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage You seem to believe all of Montreal’s success is free m some unfair dibs rule that gave them all of the French Canadian players in the league. Thats not true. As for why I mentioned Lafleur, scroll back and re read. Have a great day Jerry. It’s almost baseball season. Go Jays.

@CornwallRoyals @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Yes yes of fuckin course they drafted him! And to ensure they got the pick pollock made 2 trades one with LA & 1 with oakland who were bottom feeders. wtf? Does that have to do with what I’m saying? Don’t be in denial there. Are u saying MTL woulda never won cups without Lafleur?

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Any team could have done what MtL did to get Béliveau. Selke signed him to a B form and eventually bought the whole Quebec Senior League. Toronto could have done the same with shrewd scouting/ business acumen. They did not. Don’t like it? Fine. Unfair “dibs” ing nope. Done Jerry

@CornwallRoyals @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Omg beliveau was making more money on aces than anyone on habs. So what? He BELONGED to MTL end of story, pointe finale! He either played with aces or Habs! Are u again denying that? Why are squirming & saying things that are completely irrelevant to the facts

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Not delusional just not partial to Toronto centric revisionist history BS. Congrats on the name calling by the way! Really mature. Maybe you should take a nap. You seem cranky. Have a great day Jerry. Perhaps join the SIHR. It’s about 45 bucks a year but worth it.

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Bingo just like the Leafs could have had Béliveau, or Plante had they wished because your claim that Montreal could just “dibs” sll French Canadiens is a myth. Read how the rule worked Jerry.

@jchiappetta @kenscara1 @91Butch @hockey_vintage Lafleur was Drafted by MTL in 1971 not acquired by a trade. They had acquired California’s first rounder, then had to make a deal with LA to ensure LA finished ahead of the Seals. Cheating..no..shrewd…yes. Sam Pollock pulled that one off. Again good business no “dibs” in sight.
