109 years ago today, the United States entered World War I. On this date in 1920, a memorial sculpture called “The Supreme Sacrifice”—in honor of the DC government employees who lost their lives in that war—was dedicated in the District Building. You can still see it in our lobby

On this date in 1950, Carter Godwin Woodson died. Known as the “father of Black history,” he created “Negro History Week,” which later became Black History Month. He had deep ties to DC. He taught & was Dean at @HowardU College of Arts & Sciences. He died at his home in Shaw.
