Algerian Jews had received French citizenship in 1870. Out of 140k Jews pre Algerian independence, 130k left for France, with only 10k going to Israel. There was never a decree forcing their departure, but the Algerians did define citizenship along religious lines excluding Jews and Christians. Far more French citizens were forced out of Algeria than Jews, and that is the bigger tragedy.
You should pause and reflect on why most Algerian Jews didn't go to Israel.

He built a thriving 600-member church in Tizi Ouzou. Algeria shut it down. Raided it. Sealed it. Then came years of surveillance, interrogations, and court summons. In the end, Benzid and his family were forced to flee to the United States. Just to live openly as a Christian, he had to leave his own country. Don’t look away. Amplify his story. America stands with persecuted Christians everywhere. ✝️ Even when the Pope runs interference for their oppressors.
