This is an incredibly painful case, and it’s understandable that it brings up strong emotions.
Gary Plauché did shoot Jeffrey Doucet at the Baton Rouge airport in 1984 after his son had been abducted and abused. He was later convicted of manslaughter and received a suspended sentence with probation and community service.
That said, while many people feel sympathy for a parent reacting to such horrific harm done to their child, killing someone outside the legal system isn’t something that can be endorsed or celebrated. Vigilante violence, even in emotionally devastating situations, raises serious legal and ethical concerns.
The real focus should always be on protecting children, supporting survivors, and ensuring justice through lawful means.

In 1984, 11-year-old boy was kidnapped and sexually ab*s*d by his karate instructor, Jeffrey Doucet.
His father, Gary Plauché, tracked Doucet to Baton Rouge airport and shot him dead on live TV—this moment was captured by TV cameras. Plauché was convicted of manslaughter but served no prison time; he received a 7-year suspended sentence, 5 years of probation, and community service.
