Anti-bike theft quiz. ↓ Do you pass? Q: What did this (former) bike owner do wrong? A: They didn't use a U-lock. Tip: We recommend U-locks and having three points of contact — one with the tire, one with the frame of the bike and one with the rack.

Today is not the day to test your vehicle's superpowers; slow down and leave extra space between your vehicle and the one ahead. A little patience now can save you a spin, a slide, or an unplanned meeting with a snowbank.

Boulder County Sheriff’s Office
Please welcome Sgt. Sharon McKim as the new Chief for the Town of Lyons! She will officially move to this position at the end of January. Sharon graduated from Longmont High School and successfully completed the Red Rocks Police Academy in 1999. Sharon began her career at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in 2000 where she served as a deputy in the Jail and Patrol Divisions. She moved to Alaska in 2005 where she worked as an Investigator for the Alaska State Troopers Drug Task Force serving in the south-central and Kodiak regions of the state. In 2011, she relocated back to Colorado and was hired by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office later that year. During her tenure with the Sheriff’s Office, she has served as a Patrol Deputy, Detective, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2020. During her 25 year career in law enforcement, she has held many specialized positions including Field Training Officer, SWAT Negotiator, and Driving Instructor. When she isn’t working, Sharon enjoys spending time with her 14 year-old son, Tanner. They spend their time riding dirtbikes, taking care of their small hobby farm, and they can be found many summer weekends at the Colorado National Speedway where Tanner races in the Pure Stock division. Sharon is very excited to serve the Town of Lyons. If you see her out and about, please say hello.

Honoring Deputy Parrish. End of Watch: December 31, 2017 Today we remember and honor Deputy Zackari (Zack) Parrish, who gave his life in the line of duty on December 31, 2017. Born in 1988 in Nashville, Zack lived a life defined by purpose, drive, and deep commitment to serving others. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Communication from Dallas Baptist University, he followed his calling into law enforcement—serving with Morrison PD, Castle Rock PD, and ultimately joining the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in June 2017. Zack quickly became known for his hard work, integrity, and contagious energy. His dedication and drive earned him the nickname “Zippy.” More than a deputy, Zack was a loyal friend and teammate who lifted others up and strengthened the bond within his patrol family. Above all, Zack was a devoted husband and father. He leaves behind his wife, Gracie, and their two daughters, who were his greatest joy. Today, we also recognize the bravery and sacrifice of the deputies who responded alongside Zack—those who were wounded, those who protected others despite the danger, and those whose courage that night will never be forgotten. Their strength, resilience, and continued service honor Zack’s memory every day. On this anniversary, we remember Zack’s legacy, his sacrifice, and the lasting impact he made on our agency and our community. We will never forget. Rest in peace, Deputy Parrish.
