This was hard. These are all “hidden” landmarks of segregation and racism in Midtown. Slavery, a vanished Black cemetery, Camp Jackson, desegregation at SLU, the remains of LaClede Town, closed SLPS schools (Warring and Vashon), buildings that survived Mill Creek’s destruction...

A find via @SLUArchives this morning - SLU students saying "goodbye" to the Nathaniel Lyon statue (then located at Grand and Pine in a small park) before it was dismantled and moved to South City in the early 60s. Lyon was the Union commander during the Camp Jackson affair.
