Shares of advanced nuclear energy companies, such as Oklo, $OKLO, and NuScale Power, $SMR, are higher following a new Bank of America report. The report states that nuclear energy represents a $10 trillion potential market opportunity and could hold "the answer to the world's power shortages." By 2050, nuclear power capacity needs to triple to meet rising electrification demands driven by data centers and AI projects. According to the firm, investment in this sector is expected to reach more than $3 trillion in the next 25 years. The answer to meeting this demand could lie in small modular reactors (SMRs), which the bank describes as "one of the most consequential energy technologies for the next 25 years." These reactors, with capacities typically under 500 megawatts, offer faster and cheaper construction compared to traditional nuclear plants.
