Who are these judges to police the language used by @MnshaP, or for that matter any credible journalist, in the course of reporting? “We may pass an order which will place her entire career in disarray,” one of the judges said. Is this how a constitutional court threatens a journalist for merely using the word “shit”? Every person aware of the state of the media will use words stronger, harsher, uglier to describe it. When rabid communal campaigns are launched by these channels, do Justices C Hari Shankar and Om Prakash Shukla take suo-motu notice and nip them in the bud? Something that is far more consequential to democracy itself than the word “shit” that seems to have shook their conscience? Such language of intimidation belongs on the streets, uttered by goons, not expected from a constitutional court, an institution that derives its authority from constitutional restraint and moral gravitas. Judges must remain aware of their limits of business and be more than circumspect in their utterances. Otherwise it is the institution itself that is diminished in the eyes of the people---an institution that deserves nothing but respect. barandbench.com/news/no-decenc…

#YearInReview: Like every year, I come before you with a review of my work. 2025 has been a year of generosity and grace, of receiving help, warmth, and validation from people who saw my work and respected it. It has also been a year of strain: long stretches of self-doubt, exhaustion, and a constant negotiation with myself to be better. Sometimes I rose to the occasion. And at other times, I only learned where I fell short. This year, I stepped into new routines and unfamiliar terrains, took on new kinds of labour, and even marched ahead to find collective ways of articulating anguish (AQI protests). I won’t romanticise this but I will say it plainly: living and working independently, without the safety net of an institution, has been worth every second. The freedom is terrifying, yes, but it is also deeply honest. As I step into a new year, I carry with me a few unfinished tasks (my first book is top on that list) which I am determined to complete at the earliest. I hope to begin a few new projects as well, and I trust that the generous, thoughtful people who have walked alongside me on this professional journey will continue to do so. I often tell friends that Twitter has been a blessing. People here have reached out without obligation or agenda, offering wisdom, help, critique, and encouragement. That kind of unsolicited solidarity is rare, and I do not take it lightly. To all of you: thank you. I will try to do even better in 2026! Now, a thread of my work. Chronology samajhiye.

@tushar15 @chirayusdesai Why not? The new definition was literally given by the govt. The SC accepted a uniform, scientific definition of the Aravalli Hills and Ranges proposed by a committee under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).

All the 'Save Aravalli' tweets have disappeared. As if it were a campaign for 48-72 hours. What happened? Once the fact-checking started, many resorted to abuses, and when they could not defend the indefensible, they all seemed to have chickened out.

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has come under fire for his “objectionable” comments against refugees. But is that really the case?
