Stop Forcing Prince William to Reconcile With Harry
I am profoundly tired of the endless campaign to force the Sussexes back into the royal fold.
This latest push, led apparently by Theo Rycroft, King Charles’s deputy private secretary, feels particularly misguided. Reports say he has made reconciling William and Harry his “number one mission.” He believes it is time to knock their heads together so the King can repair his relationship with his younger son. But where was this urgency for restraint, responsibility, and family unity when Prince Harry was relentlessly attacking his own family through interviews, documentaries, and a memoir sold for global consumption? After everything that has happened, this approach is hard to accept.
The rift between the brothers is not some ordinary family quarrel that can be fixed with a handshake and good intentions. It exists because Prince Harry chose, repeatedly and publicly, to attack his own family. The Oprah interview with its damaging accusations. The memoir Spare that spilled private conversations. The Netflix series and other deals that turned royal connections into commercial content while criticising the institution they once served. These were not slips of the tongue. They were deliberate choices with real consequences.
What, exactly, is William supposed to forgive? His wife’s name dragged through years of public narratives. Private family matters turned into international headlines. His children indirectly caught up in the fallout. The repeated use of their mother’s memory in ways that crossed every boundary. Harry did not just leave royal life, he weaponised his position inside it.
Now, as the Sussex brand struggles with declining momentum and difficult headlines, the urgency to “heal the rift” has suddenly increased. That timing is hard to ignore. When the deals were flowing and the interviews were landing, family reconciliation was rarely the priority. Now suddenly it is being framed as the mature and necessary thing to do.
Mr Rycroft may be an experienced diplomat, but this entire mission feels deeply disconnected from reality. The Prince of Wales carries heavy responsibilities as heir. He must protect his wife, his children, and the future stability of the monarchy. He has every right to maintain firm boundaries after repeated public betrayals. Forcing him to set those aside for the sake of appearances, or to ease the King’s discomfort, puts short term sentiment ahead of the institution’s long term needs.
Reconciliation is not something aides can engineer. It requires real accountability, an end to the public attacks, and the slow rebuilding of trust. None of that has been offered. Until it is, continued pressure on William only undermines the very institution they claim to serve.
The monarchy has survived far greater tests by holding to duty, discretion, and realism about human conduct. It does not need manufactured photo opportunities or forced handshakes. William’s duty is clear: protect his family and the Crown he will one day lead. No amount of well meaning palace intervention changes that basic truth.
Perhaps it is time for palace aides and commentators alike to stop attempting to engineer personal relationships from the outside and allow the Prince of Wales to decide for himself what is best for his family and the future of the Crown.

Prince Harry’s betrayal of his family wasn’t merely a ‘family disagreement’ or a ‘cry for help.’ It was a calculated, public dismantling of the very institution and people who gave him everything.
He walked away from royal duties, trashed the monarchy, spilled intimate family secrets, and sat for the Oprah interview that painted his own blood relatives as racist, cold and cruel. He leaked private conversations, mocked his brother’s thinning hair, accused the Palace of lying, and turned his wife’s grievances into a global brand. He did it all while his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, was still alive and visibly pained by the spectacle. It wasn’t ‘finding freedom’ - it was outright betrayal.
Now the same voices who cheered every attack are demanding Prince William extend the olive branch. The pressure is relentless, but reconciliation is inconceivable. William is not just a brother; he is the future King of the United Kingdom. He carries the weight of an institution that Harry spent years trying to burn down for profit and relevance. Asking William to pretend none of it happened, to sit across from the man who sold out their grandmother, their father, and their shared history, isn’t compassion. It’s asking the future monarch to betray his own duty to protect the Crown and the family it represents.
People need to understand something basic about human relationships: betrayal is often final. Once you deliberately, repeatedly, and publicly drive a knife into the people who raised you, trusted you, and defended you, the bridge doesn’t just get repaired with a polite phone call or a photo-op handshake. Trust is shattered. Loyalty is gone. The damage is done. Harry chose the spotlight over blood. He chose money and attention over duty and discretion. That choice was his to make, but choices have consequences, and some doors, once slammed this hard, stay shut.
The royal family isn’t a reality show. It’s an institution built on continuity, service, and quiet loyalty. Harry broke every part of that covenant. William owes it to his country, his father, and his children to recognize that some betrayals are permanent. Forgiveness is a personal matter. Forgetting, pretending, and inviting the betrayer back into the heart of the family is not. Not now. Not ever.

@paulamatanovich Utter BS.
Neither the King nor William would consider letting Harry back. He is untrustworthy to ever serve The Crown again. No amount of PR is going to change that.

Prince Harry 'very sad' about Royal Family's distance from Archie and Lili.
Translation: “I’m broke, irrelevant, and the Netflix/Spare money is drying up, so let me use Archie and Lili as emotional leverage to crawl back into the Royal Family’s good graces.”
Harry, you repeatedly said you felt trapped, that the institution was toxic, and that you wanted to protect your family from that same “cage.” So why are you now sad that the people you publicly attacked and walked away from are keeping their distance?
If you truly believed what you said, you would stay far away, renounce your titles, and remove Archie and Lili’s titles as well so they can live freely outside the “trap” you described.
You can’t burn the house down, move across the ocean, trash the family for profit and then act shocked when they don’t invite you back.
Pick a lane, Harry.

Remember during the 2019 Morocco tour when Harry was assigned to walk the center red carpet to inspect the Guard of Honour? It was straightforward ceremonial stuff - he’s ex-military, it was his role. Yet Meghan hovered right on the edge as closely as she could instead of stepping back respectfully.
It was a perfect microcosm of the whole issue: she just couldn’t let him do a straightforward duty without orbiting the moment. Protocol be damned - if Harry was on it, she had to be in the picture too.
That’s why the alleged feedback from Sentebale about Meghan’s public image and the endless Sussex drama becoming a real liability for fundraising and corporate ties surprised absolutely nobody. Charities chasing serious donors hate it when every appearance gets hijacked by awkward PR, celebrity theatrics, or another round of tabloid noise. It poisons the well.
What she never seemed to get or maybe never wanted to accept is that constantly centring herself didn’t make her look powerful or important. It only made the whole dynamic look awkward, attention-seeking and ultimately diminished Harry in the process.
Instead of backing him up, those moves repeatedly undercut him by turning official duties into something that felt more like a personal performance.
Royalty isn’t Hollywood. It’s quiet professionalism, knowing when to step back, respecting the hierarchy, and putting service and the institution first. The ones who last understand they’re not the main character.
In hindsight, it’s probably a blessing she took herself back to Montecito. The longer she’d stayed, the more second-hand embarrassment and damage she would’ve piled on the monarchy.
Some people marry into history and quietly adapt.
Meghan Markle walked in convinced she was the star of the show m and walked out proving, in the most unmistakable way, exactly why she never belonged in the royal family in the first place.
