@ylecun @elonmusk Why does CA continue to make solar more and more expensive, now unaffordable without batteries, whilst pushing EV cars, trucks, forklifts etc ??? NEM1 was GREAT for consumers, NEM2, ok with big array, NEM3, $50k for a decent system that requires batteries with a ROI of 10 yrs?

Yeah, lots of people have done this calculation. The main problem is that it's totally impractical unless you have tens of GWh of storage capacity to survive through the nights and cloudy skies. What existing energy storage technology can scale to that level and still remain economically viable?

Once you understand Kardashev Scale, it becomes utterly obvious that essentially all energy generation will be solar. Also, just do the math on solar on Earth and you soon figure out that a relatively small corner of Texas or New Mexico can easily serve all US electricity.

@CAgovernor Why not simply and immediately lower or get rid of the fuel taxes at the pump thus saving actual users of fuel as opposed to blanket cash giveaways to everyone?
