It was a special honour to witness Tsawout Chief Pelkey blanket Darrell Underwood, Saanich’s new Deputy Chief Constable Chief Pelkey told Deputy Underwood that the Tsawout community stands behind him & the blanket wraps him in “warmth & honour and to move forward in a good way.”

It was such a joy to spend the morning with Weston and his family. I have no doubt we will see this young man’s photo on the wall of Saanich Mayors in the not-too-distant future.

This morning I took on the role of Mayor’s assistant when Saanich staff members and I welcomed Weston as our Mayor for the Morning. Weston is a grade 2 student from Saanich, who won Mayor and Council’s holiday card contest late last year.

The draft Quadra McKenzie Plan is one way we’re preparing for Saanich’s future. The planning effort will result in a vision to guide our growth & see more individuals & families settle in our neighbourhoods & centres, while maintaining the things that make our community special.

The secret is out. Saanich is a great place to live. More people want to call it home. With growth comes the need to plan for housing, transportation, services and spaces that work better for you and your family.

Cst. Rae Robirtis from @vicpdcanada is spending today patrolling Saanich with a special partner, his daughter Saanich Police Cst. Danica Robirtis. Rae is retiring later this month after a 24-year career in policing. Thank you for your service Cst. Robirtis Sr. All the best in retirement!

This week I got to serve lunch with a great group of local volunteers at Our Place That’s Stacy, Joe & Paul from CHEK News, & Sylvia from the Alliance to End Homelessness It’s such a joy to see smiles around the room as volunteers spread holiday cheer & serve a holiday meal

Yesterday I stopped by my old high school, Claremont Secondary, to visit with Mr. Neufeld’s grade 11 class One of my favourite things about this job is the chance to talk to students about their priorities & the future they want for this world I look forward to the next visit!
