@jchensor Im pretty localspilled but I think people are also more positive in person Even when complaining about game stuff its just a chat between friends instead of you being fed takes from randos online And its easier to laugh at dumb stuff in match when your friends are there too

Aris spoke a LOT of truth in that recent Heat Smash podcast. But one of the things he kept emphasizing was that we’ve lost that magic of playing with other people in person. I’ve been saying this for a while now: Fighting Games are a social genre. They aren’t meant to be played how we’re playing them these days. I know it’s not possible for everyone to go to a local and such, but playing with friends and in person makes the experience so much more enjoyable. I really do think the nature of playing by yourself trying to rank up really saps the joy out of Fighting Games. And I think it’s psychologically draining / damaging. I really do think it’s a major reason why everyone is so negative these days and why it seems like no one is enjoying the game they’re playing. Playing nonstop matches is just not how you should play. I swear losing and having to wait for your turn again is probably the greatest Fighting Game mechanic ever.
